As spydar said, it would be cool if you could use it to throw off the enemies aim when they are firing at you.

Exactly. It's an old naval dictum that a searchlight might light up your target, but now everyone else knows exactly where you are. Battleships use them to spot destroyers, destroyers use them to spot PT boats, but not the other way around. An airplane is a special case. It's very fast and usually coming right at a u-boat. you can shoot at it or dive, but shining your own light at it is a waste of time.
U-boats didn't have permanent searchlights. They carried portable units, mostly signal lamps. http://www.uboatarchive.net/DesignSt...ypeIXC-S66.htm

It would also be nice to use it in addition of the Navigation lights, if they existed.
And using it to spot lifeboats would be a nice aesthetic feature. |

Here is a picture of it in the GR2.
http://www.mediafire.com/view/?xonpbq1gbc2e2b2 It seems of low detail, the Developers probably axed it before they created code for it. |

I was digging in the files again, but I cannot seem to find anything relating to the U-Boat searchlight, but it might be possible to mod the regular searchlights beam to fit to it, but making it controllable might be difficult.
