Default Realistic depths.

So I was playing GWX, testing the cruch depth differences between the VIIC and VIIC/41, when I discovered that the plain Type VIIC dives down to around 400 meters before crushing, as does the VIIC/41, with or without the Type VIIC/41 mod enabled (easy enough to fix though, just edit VIIC file when I get to Type VIIC/41 in campaign). I crushed a couple more subs and got a little annoyed and decided to edit the .cfg files to make them more realistic.

For example, I changed the type VIIC's max depth to 230 meters, and it crushed at 260 meters, which is pretty good realism wise, except that it took a barrage of clicks to do so.
When it reached 230 meters it wouldn't dive any further, I had to keep clicking on the dive down button as it went down another 30 meters inch by inch to it's death.

Anyway to get around this? The existance of the Type VIIC/41 is pretty pointless when every sub in the game can submerge at least 300 meters.

I'll probably just use the 41's model and try not to think about it.

I'm guessing you weren't nearly as annoyed as your crew...

Yeah they always seemed a little miffed before we imploded. They would even start back talking me.
"Waaah we're diving to deep sir waaaaah."

Use SH3 Commander. Not only does it use correct crush depths (well, calculated, as there was no actual way to test it in real life) but they are also randomized, so each game session is different, and you never know what it is this time.

I knew I should've just got that mod when I saw it...
Thanks!

You'll be amazed. Commander changes the entire way the game feels, affecting not only the game itself but your actual career.

Next time it may be worthwhile pointing out to your crew in advance that their deaths will be merely 'a transition' and that there's nothing really to worry about, as after all, their 'codes' will be re-used to create a new crew next time round. This should put their minds at ease before implosion.
