Facebook...is that not for friends and keeping in contact with friends? Blogs are for spewing whatever you want about anyone you want with little to no recourse? I don't know, it is all very confusing.
Facebook, blogs, it doesn't matter; if it can be accessed by the general public, it is there to haunt, possibly forever.

That is the thing....people think the internet is the place to do whatever they like and say whatever they feel. It is a false sense of security. There is a recourse for posting things of this nature.

Out of curiosity: which combination of you, me and guardman's head are your referring to?

Herr-Berr, sorry to hear about your job loss. So do you get to keep the uniform and the hat? Maybe you could work for Prince Charles?

"this nature"? He said he hates this Middleton gal, and called her names. So what? I hate our beloved Her Majesty, Beatrix, by the grace of God, Queen of the Netherlands, princess of Orange-Nassau, princess of Lippe-Biesterfelt as well. Yes, I call her names as well. I'd like her better dead, and I'd even condone a lethal attack on her and her family. Here you go, it's on the Interwebz. Now should I be fired (don't have a job anyways) for this? Aren't we all entitled our own opinions? As long as you don't show them in public and keep them private, and of course don't let them interfere with your work, I don't see why your employer should have anything to do with them. Where is this world going if you can't even hate someone without losing your job?

Well, i kind of agree with you, but...
there is such a thing called code of conduct.
I'm sure that when you sign up pr are hired as a Palace Guard you are agreeing to a few conditions.
At my job, when i signed on the dotted line i also had to read the Employee Handbook and sign off on that too. The Employee Handbook and the Enterprise Bargaining Agreement states, and i quote:
"Instant Dismissal----
Whilst not limited by the following, conduct of the nature stipulated will justify instant dismissal:
  • Unauthorised disclosure of confidential company information to an external party----
  • Defamation of the business or any of its team members
  • Verbal or physical abuse of any team member or member of the public.
Now i picked out the ones that pertain the most to this situation.
As you can see, when you sign up for a job, you also agree to be bound by the Code of Conduct, to uphold the business's name and values and that you give a good impression of the business that you work for.
So, we may think that it's ok to slander and to simply give our opinions to the public or our our friends about the place where we work, but, there are and there will be ramifications of that, especially if your company has code of conducts.
I'm sure the Palace has similar, if not more rigorous criteria for working for them.
If you are going to be that stupid, posting on a public social network site about how crappy your employer is or how crappy the job is or how crappy the life is that you've been dealt, which has the company's name mentioned alongside of it, be prepared to lose your job!
NOTE:
I forgot to mention, in my companie's code of conduct, there is also a clause, several actually, about posting on network sites anything about your work place.
This is also frowned upon and if doing so, will be disciplined.
I say, if you don't like your job, or the people you work for, quit and work somewhere where you are happy.
Don't be a loser and whine and whinge on a social networking site!

He also wrote about shooting jews beating blacks and hating Pakistanis.
So the so what is that dickheads like that should be left in the gutter with the filth, not put in the uniform of a supposedly top regiment.

In company where I worked earlier there was no code of conduct or such I just had to sign agreement that I don't disclose any information I get in my job.

That paper is in my opinion unnecessary as if I ever leak anything prosecutor will want my head on silver platter.

That.

Post anything that you would stand on and say it to the person directly.

Yes he may be a dickhead. But as long as he behaves professionally when on the job, I don't see a problem with it. Facebook is not meant for anyone to see, what you write on facebook is meant for your friends and something private. Your employer has nothing to do with it IMO.

So unless there's something in his code of conduct about not saying mean things about the royal family, I think sacking him was unjustified.

Apparently his dreams about shooting jews was when he was on the job.
Do you not see the problem of putting a ****** like that on the street with a gun?

Code of conduct?
That would be covered in the British army values and standards policy, I think it was last updated in 2008.
As it happens they are expected to be observed both on and off duty which further undermines your "on the job" line.
