I'm not mocking, I'm agreeing. That was my point.

Glad I came to the forums to read up on the game prior to making a purchase... I really do need to go out and start reading up on this new version of DRM. Sounds horrible.

Well it was fun coming back to this after posting it and letting some time pass. For the record, it really did feel weird not buying the games as I usually buy them on the first day of release. I remember the good old days in the late 80's/early 90's when there were easily 4 or 5 new games coming out each month.

But I digress. I thought it might help for someone who wants to hold off but is tempted. On the other hand I can see how this gets old quick so I'm glad a few of you at least had some fun with it.

And no, I have nobody to buy it in proxy to answer your question.

Right now I'm still getting over the fact that from all indications Silent Hunter 5 is actually Silent Hunter 3 with a face lift. This blows me away. If it's true, I would have expected a lot more "good" things being reported instead of all the disappointments.

It doesn't matter how many reviews you read, it won't give you an understanding of what it's actually like to play the game. My perception of what it would be like from all the US and Canadian reviews was completely different to my own playing experience. You can read about the auto TDC numbers, but unless you've tried it, you won't really be able to form an opinion of whether you like it or not. The same can be said for issuing commands, it's completely not like SH3 or SH4, so unless you've tried it, you won't be able to know whether you like it or not. SH3 version 2 it is not. But it is something completely different, which you may, or may not enjoy. The only way to be sure, is to take the plunge.

SH5 is going to be the best sub game ever created at some point in the near future.

but.. the staunch anti-DRM crowd have nothing left to discuss but to keep announcing how proud they are they will never play it.

Perhaps they should leave the SH5 boards and get their own forum so they are in like company.. they have no intention of ever playing the game anyway right?

Might be a boring forum though since the only sticky would be: "Who is more resolute in not buying a game and boasting about it?"

Go away.

I think you're right Redcoat22, SH5 certainly does have the potential to be the best yet. There are a few who still want to bash the game and let's be honest when something is new, then it's cool to bash the new things, so we don't appear conformist and therefore cool. But those who have become the 'early haters' are in a bit of a precarious position, as the initially cool hater position has somewhat given way to the steady flow of posts saying that people are enjoying the game. Its not wrong to change your mind, only a sensible person can change their mind. It's a normal part of being a human .

Nah... you missed this one. I want SH5. Badly. I hate OSP more. I want to play SH5, but the implications of OSP and my feelings against it prevent me from being able to play SH5. Trust me, if I had my druthers, I druther be playing SH5

I feel your pain. I will eventually get SH5 but that will depend on how long it takes to reach the bargain bins. By then the DRM will have been removed as Ubisoft will no longer care about losing profits. By then it will likely have been modded into something more like SH3.2 (I hope). I doubt this new 3D interior, interactive, subby, thingy with Star Trek controls and trying the cook's soup is going to catch on and revitalize the sub sim genre.

If anything it may make the original SH3 code more available to the modders and for that it deserves merit.

It's also entirely possible another version of Silent Hunter will be released whereby this whole cycle may start all over again. It depends on Ubisoft and the success of their DRM self-flagellation software.

Default Your 100% right scrapser

I don't have the game but agree with just about every thing you have said.
