Very good question. I would also like to know- especially on high time compression.

I've only scraped the bottom and the hull integrity went down to 99%

i also had a problem where it was on the bottom but in the external view there was a large gap between the sub and its shadow. it looked like it was a good 5m off the bottom. another bug....

The bottom of the sea now has shapes instead of being just flat. Unfortunately, the devs got lazy and didnt test it properly (or just didn't care), the end result being that places where it looks like there's still 5m to the bottom there actually isn't. You can see what I mean, by finding a location with slopes and stuff and using the external camera to 'hug' the seabed while moving around.

Not entirely, but I was able to hover, standing still, 4m off the bottom without problem.

Yes okay, when i saw this subject i thought more of the idea when you
are sitting on the bottom you are more difficult to track by destroyers.

I would like to know this two.

I actually tested this. I rammed the bottom at full speed and let myself scrape it for a while. Couldn't find the damage control screen but I never got a "WE'RE TAKING DAMAGE SIR" alert so I assume if I took any damage it was minor. Hitting rocks makes loud noises by the way, other wise its a pleasant thud.

Something tells me you won't be having troubles with the destroyers. Atleast not in the early days. I just went to blow up HMS Malaya in Scapa Flow, none of the 3-4 destroyers there even came to investigate the burning hulk of the Malaya.
