This would have been two nice touches to the game.

If you die on the surface, an animation showing some kind of capture/surrender scheme would have been cool.

If you did underwater, some animation showing a crippled sub slowly sinking, leaking oil and bubbles, followed by an implosion would have been cool.

The instant black stat screen is a let-down.

I think I remember it from the movie. Don't know if it was an actual quote from RL but sure sounds like something he would've said.

I never surrender. I just have a habit of doing something dumb to make the uboat sink. Like the time I submerged to within 5m of the seabed and bumped the TC up a few notches.

I order a crash dive, and it took 45 seconds to get down. The destroyer nailed my conning tower, rendering everything there useless. Ash cans made quick work after that, with fuel tank leaking and electric motors shot.
Emergency surface, and a surrender later takes me to a prison camp.

Time to try again!
This is a suicide attack using a boat very good well suited for very long range patrols in zones with lone ships but not for surface attacks in 1943 against well defended convoys .

The good choice for 1943 is a VII boat or a IX-B boat, stay dived to avoid Radar detection and fire log range shots.

Be sure that your Very big boat show a nice profile in enemy radar at night
