Understatement of the year!

The last 3 games i bought just sit on the shelves, the buggyness of modern game development is horrific. I hear the death toll of the PC Game industry

This looks very scary in my eyes
It seems the whole 'dynamic campaign' stuff turned out to be a set of scripted missions, a-la SH2.

I recall the producer of SH3 saying he wanted to have a campaign setup similar to this. After much protest on this site it was changed.

Sadly it appears that this has idea has not gone the wayside. Canned missions suck

"It seems..."
"Sadly it appears..."

Where exactly do you get this idea from? This question came up several weeks ago, and Dan answered that this campaign would be truly dynamic, with the enemy actually able to respond to your actions. How does that translate to "canned missions"?

Yeah, apparently it seems that the average internet person may possibly look like he can usually whip generalizations out of thin air. As a rule.

It's not safe to hope for the best without preparing for the worst, Neal.

"Hope for the best, expect the worst, and take what you get with a sense of humor" is my motto. Well, one of them at least.

But criticizing something that has been categorically denied by the lead developer? I'd still like to know where you got this "information" from.

Are we talking about the same thing? Cuz I'm talking about a computer game.

Yeah same thing. When I'm huddled in my bunker after the collapse, you're damn right I want my computer games with me. And plentiful means to protect them from those who foolishly failed to prepare.

I purposely used "seems" and "appears" because I'm not sure. These are the impressions I am getting from what I have seen.

What exactly does Dan mean by dynamic? Same map with different spawn points, shipping routes? How many, how big is the map? The Atlantic? Local region only? Do I have to start with the same mission every time? You may be okay with certain design decisions in this regard, but I may not be.

I have a lot of questions and few answers just regarding the campaign and mission structure alone, never mind other issues like obvious bugs. These screens raise more questions for me and a lot of concern.

And yes it's a preview build.

I'm sorry you feel that I'm dumping on the game in my earlier post. That wasn't my intention.

I believe he meant exactly what he said.

Well, since you are privy to information we are not, maybe you could clear up some of this speculation instead of continuing to make vague statements.

If I was making a submarine game that included that branching campaign picture meaningfully, it would mean that I would have each box be a "scenario." Each scenario would differ by the traffic both random and static and where the player was situated. I would allow the whole world to be in use since that is the easiest situation to code for; same chess board, new moves.

If I would hazard a guess at SH5's reality I would say it is probably a "branching tree of SH4 like patrol-worlds." Something like "you start in 1st flotilla in 39 and if you do well you move on to l orient in 41" or whathaveyou.
