In that case, I think I've found your belated Christmas gifts:

Personally I think this installment will be more than anyone has imagined a game could be. For those that are married start drawing up the divorce paperwork now. For those that are single prepare for your life to be spent as a recluse. This game will be so engrossing a better part of your life will be changed forever.....

I hope so too. Can't wait to party like it's 1939!

I'm sure the game won't have everything for everybody. For me the perfect SH5 game would include the following:

1) Exact modeling of the stadimeter and TDC
2) The option to turn off the sub's GPS and do true celestrial navigation with accurate sunrise and sunset times

But without those I'm still happy the series is continuing.

I.e. (at least for me) I don't want to be included in every major event during the time of my virtual career. Even not ordered to join every major event. Because this is a heavy player-centric approach that makes you feel like the game just waits for you to come along and then the action takes place around you.
Just because every mission / patrol is somehow put into context, it doesn't mean every mission is major battle.

guys guys guys, lets give the man the benefit of the doubt and remember there is sooo much he wants to tell us but he cant.

i myself have less concerns after seeing this:

Nope, won't change a thing. I guess I'd fall in the "what is this, sunlight?" category.

Which raises a question.

Has anyone seen confirmation that there will be anything other than Type VII boats in SH5? It wouldn't make that much difference to me, but everything I have seen only references Type VII models.

I'm sure most if not all boats found in SH3 will be in SH5. The 3D models and study of each boat is available. It would not make sense to omit boats that are readily available already.

Well the Type VII is instantly recognisable to anybody with even a passing familiarity with WW2 as a german submarine. It makes sense that that's what would be in the promitional videos.
The Type II isn't the most menacing or impressive looking boat, after all. I'm sure it's in the game, and the IX too. Other than that, who knows?

The 3D external models and control rooms... yes. But not the internal models.

I'm just sayin'...
