Not too hard to realise that the blind lemming attitude does no more than hit the buyer, in both enjoyment of the game and the hip pocket.

when sh3 came out i read all the bad stuff about it and said "screw that game, its crap"

then a year or two later gw 1.0 i think (befor gwx was made), i read that the game was finally patched enough to work properly and mods had made it more playable so i bought it (out of the discount rack at great savings) i bought it "only" because of hearing this and the cheap price made it well worth buying.

when sh4 came out i wanted it very much but waited to hear the early reports and i was glad i did not buy it. after patch 1.2 i bought the game (at a 50% discount) only because it was reported to be playable at that point "but not before IMO"

it took patches to make sh3 worth buying, it also took patches to make sh4 worth buying, but admittedly only 2 and not 4 like sh3 did.

i hope sh5 is good to go as released but unless i hear it reported as such, i WILL wait for the first patch to be released before i buy sh5. i just dont see the logic in doing otherwise.

now my point of view may be slanted by monetary concerns because i am on an extremely tight budget with no money to be spent on extras so maybe if i had the money to take chances on a new release game that may not be a game i want to keep then i might view it differently.

also i am one of those people who looks for a way to get a discount and even a $10 difference in price can truely mean a lot to my monthly budget as to weather i eat hot dogs or pot roast. truth be known i really cant afford video games on my budget but i sacrafice to do it anyway.

I post here part of a post I made some days ago on the Ubi SH5 forum because it seems to be relevant to what some of you are saying. I think it gives insight into how Ubi thinks about it's products and customers. It is why I will never buy a new release from them. I wait for patches and mods.

"I just came across a rather illuminating quote by UBI CEO Yves Guillemot. He states in their 3rd quarter (2009) earnings statement that "However, as some of our games did not meet the required quality levels to achieve their full potential they need more sales promotions than anticipated."

Three thoughts come to mind.
#1 They have no problem at all sending crap out the door. Well we kinda already knew that huh?
#2 Once they've sent crap out the door, they would rather pay more money to sell you their crap than spend it on fixing the crap you just bought from them.
#3 Here now we have Facebook, which cost them money to set up. Marketing money. Logically speaking one can assume that they already know SH5 is crap and are acting accordingly."

@Pacific Ace

Thankyou so much for that gem....absolutely brilliant! Sort of justifies my endless rantings these last 30 odd years.

But you did eventually buy the games.

You are right to hold out if you can scarcely afford it. But if everyone adopts the same attitude, even if they can afford to just buy it when it hits the streets, there will be no more SH.

I'll buy it when I can, if only to support it. I don't care if I have to shelve it a few months, or even a year. I'll do what I can to keep this thing going, even if I have to wait a bit for a patch to come along.

That's a valid point, and I would agree, but my point is true as well - if nobody buys it until somebody else gives their impressions, then we'll never know whether it's any good or not, because no one will have told us. Then your striving for quality won't matter, because we'll all be sitting on our high horses with no game to play.

And I'm not necessarily disagreeing with your desire to wait - just the "even if it's only a penny" statement.

Me, I'd spend a penny for it even if it sucked, just so I could say I had one.
