Good old amazon.

PhantomLord 12-08-09 07:18 AM

Wow... german amazon is at 49,95€ :o
based on the actual exchange rate... around 45 GBP

Uber Gruber 12-08-09 08:36 AM

They can reduce the pre-order price to 1 penny for all I care.... i'm still not touching it till its been put through its paces by members of this community.

Sky999 12-08-09 08:47 AM

Why not just buy it while it's cheap? If there are things terribly wrong with it then I'm sure the modders will fix it sharpish. :yeah:

but havent you heard? :06:

sh5 with be completely bug free and working perfectly :D

@ sky999 - its very possible that if sh5 has many issues when released then ubi may drop the price a good bit to make up for the reduced sales and bad press. when things are cheaper people dont complain as loud.

Uber Gruber 12-08-09 12:26 PM

Though I appreciate the logic of buyin it when it's cheap....I would be playing into the hands of people who feel they can release crap before it's finished - I use SH4 here as an example. I paid for that on release and it was buggy as hell.....so once bitten twice shy....now I wont pay a penny till I KNOW its working as expected.

It isn't my fault that some eejit biz head at Ubi has discredited the quality of their company by allowing a product to be released prior to completion surely?

What's worse is UBI could use pre-ordering rates as indication of cost projection.....but not any more, they really did throw the baby out with the bath water when it came to SH4.

Oh well, you reap what you sow....etc.

Authorities have rightly priced? as for the bugs, it is in vain to extenuate the matter.:)

Pre-order Price Guarantee: order now and if the Amazon.co.uk price decreases between the time you place your order and the release date, you'll be charged the lowest price.
Well then I would say just order it.

Me too. In fact, if we get everybody to act that way there won't be any sales at all. That'll show them!

I can understand what both of you are trying to say. And as I've said many a time before we're damned if we do and damned if we don't. So the real question here is, how did we get to this point? How did we arrive at the point that we are so blindly willing to accept mediocrity in our games just to keep a series alive? I've given up on many a sereis of games because of how the latter versions developed (CoD, C&C, and BF to name a few). I hope I don't have to give up the SH series as well.

Me thinks Steve was being a lil tongue in cheek there ^^

Uber Gruber 12-08-09 06:05 PM

Hey no offence to you SS but if you wanna live in a world that your attitude implies then good for you. As for me, i'll keep striving for quality....we can be craftsmen, or machines. Which one would you want to be.

Well, maybe then they'd get the hint to start pushing quality products on release rather than after four or five patches and the hope that modders will come through to save the day. ;)

There's a lot of "we must buy this game to keep the series alive!" posts around here, but all that does is give Ubi a license to produce crap. I mean, if you know that people will buy your product regardless of content, you're gonna cut corners aren't you? Now imagine if you are a large capitalist corporation that exists on profit. Not too hard to realise that the blind lemming attitude does no more than hit the buyer, in both enjoyment of the game and the hip pocket.

For the record, I will buy SH5 on release (like I did SH3 and SH4), but I totally understand anyone feeling apprehensive and preferring to wait. That's not a reflection on them, mind you, but on the damage that Ubi does to its own reputation through releasing incomplete games that go "unpunished" by lemming buyers.

Well, color me an optimist, but I'm taking it as a good sign that they're not pushing out an unfinished and bug-ridden release just to make the holiday sales season. That's happened a fair many more times than I'm sure any publisher would own up to, but perhaps their ducks are finally in a row on this one? :: shrugs ::
