but then again, wouldn't you rather go back one savepoint and avoid beeing degraded from a advanced submarine to a diving pot of mushrooms? not to mention the renown (all your superior equipement you had on your submarine costed a lot).
maby it would be enough to make a outro (fade out) sequence for serveral endings (sunk, abandoned sub, pow), but end the game. go back to your last savespot to continue your career. and who wants a record like: hey i just lost my submarine, and seventeen of my crew died. but because the admiral is my uncle i get a new command right away. or something like... |

naturally to not die in the first place is a good idea but when it happens "then what" the "then what" is what we were discussion possible ways to do losing your sub in a way that didnt have to mean death. |

Maybe we could have the option to have a surrender key and the uboat becomes friendly and the enemy stops firing . Then the game could end with a message saying you have been taken aboard an enemy ship as a prisoner or something . In another scenario considering its first person you could get into a liferaft and wait to see if a vessel turns up nearby . You could have a flair or something . You could have your health deteriorate as time goes by so you die if no one turns up in time . I dunno , its not important really .

I think that this could be possible but one interesting thing is let to the player choose the moment when the patrol or game is over, like IL sturmovik . No more Death screens
With this you can stay in the raft and see your boat sinking while wait the rescue, or stay inside until the final moment. when all is water dark and cold

The game seems to want you as captain to be involved with crew management, a fairly nice balance was achieved in SH4, so I kind of get attached to the little buggers......
I'll vote for an Abandon Ship option; my crew can tread water in their May West's until they sink & drown or get rescued. Occasionally crew were rescued during WW II. It would be nice if there was a random chance programmed into SH5 as SHCE had like: sunk KIA, captured POW, or Rescued and resume your career with a new command as possible outcomes. Happy Hunting!
