You can avoid the majority of junk mail in the UK by simply registering on this website:

http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/mps_choosetype.html

You can also e-mail the Royal Mail to stop unaddressed junk mail arriving on your doorstep.

Works, too!

Just use a bogus name when you order stuff, or sign up for stuff. That's how I track who's selling my name. My biggest sorce of junk mail comes from the Military bookclub. Rocky McBee gets some pretty cool junkmail though.

well the thread originally refers to the United States postal service delivering to my flesh and blood address... but the same applies to email too.

the best thing to do is to create a phantom e mail.

when you sign up for internet service... create a primary e mail address and a "phantom" address.

e mail all your relatives, friends, associates etc with the primary address.

use the "phantom" address only for internet orders etc.

i also recommend Gmail.

i have used a primary address through g mail since it first came out... since then i have only received perhaps half a dozen spam messages in that time frame.

I know many people who have a "spam" e-mail address.

I also invent unique middle initials in my name to track who is selling my information.

Fine. We'll drop an Air Force brochure in the mail for you.

Don't worry about giving us your address. We already know.

I have since been modestly successful in the civilian aviation industry so it sort of defeats the purpose of joining the navy at this point.

3. I have no desire to work under the direct command authority of our current administration.
