SH4 is a different beast with many nice touches.... go all over the world, experience different storms, enjoy the island views, see many CVs, BBs, etc, shoot at japanese submarines.... and soon enough experience complete surface mods in the RN and the Kriegsmarine
Wave hi to the RAF Coastal Command????? Those suckers have anti-submarine rockets!!! I lasted less than five minutes trying to shoot at them.

Overall great advice for anyone who thinks they are bored with the game.
I say wave before firing at them....

see the following from HMS Surprise, by Patrick Obrian:

Mr White looked up at the mizen-peak, where a tricolour streamed out bravely. 'It is the French flag,' he cried. 'No. The Dutch. We are sailing under false colours! Can such things be?'

'So are they,' said Stephen. 'They seek to amuse us; we seek to amuse them. The iniquity is evenly divided. It is an accepted convention, I find, like bidding the servant - 'A shot from the Sémillante's bow-chaser threw up a plume of water a little way from the frigate's stern, and the parson started back. '- say you are not at home, when in fact you are eating muffin by your fire and do not choose to be disturbed.'

'I often did so,' said Mr White, whose face had grown strangely mottled. 'God forgive me. And now here I am in the midst of battle. I never thought such a thing could happen - I am a man of peace. However, I must not give a bad example.'

A (cannon) ball, striking the top of a wave, ricocheted on to the quarterdeck by way of the neatly piled hammocks. It fell with a harmless dump and two midshipmen darted for it, struggled briefly until the stronger wrested it away and wrapped it lovingly in his jacket. 'Good heavens,' cried Mr White. 'To fire great iron balls at people you have never even spoken to - barbarity is come again.'

Boy, you guys are really tuff on a person.

Personally, I like the "Exit Patrol" function on SH3 also.

When in Pearl, it might take 45 minutes to an hour to reach the South China Seas. "X" amout of time patroling, then another 45 minutes to an hour cruising home.

Some missions might take as long as 3 hours to complete. (Or longer)

Oh, and don't tell anybody here on the forums you have severe damage, are limping home, no torps, no ammo for the deck guns, hoping and praying you don't run into a san-pan that all it would have to do is look your direction and you'd sink.

The "glory" days of the 1940's, there gone! Almost 70 years ago!

So what if he doesn't like playing 100% realism.

So what if he doesn't like playing the same way you guys do.

Its a g-a-m-e.

Ain't that the thing about it being a g-a-m-e? We can play it any way we see fit?

That is exactly why I almost quit posting here.

You guys are so "hyper-critical" of ppl.

God Bless

Till all are one.

Mingus says SH4 is different

What I say is that stock sh4 is booring, unrealistic.

He likes U boats, I gave him our version (in progress) of Uboats

He wants challenge, I point him to TMO, RSRD and Bungo Pete

He wants realism, go for RFB+RSRD

He wants speed, try the PT mod in progress

in a short time hopefully he can drive I-boats with a jap crew for the whole war

SH4 has great possibilities and honestly.... I loved GWX2.1... but it took over 15 to 20 minutes to load and begin running.... I have heavy modded sh4 running in under 2 minutes.

my point is for him to give sh4, properly modded, a try, then see what she`s got to offer

Actually I think its 1.5 (uboat missions add-on) that brought this change. Though there are for sure lots and lots of community changes/mods/tunings in that direction.

All will never be one. And you seem to be reading a very different thread than this one, which has been filled with humor and good nature. We have stood for the rights of all to play as they wish and then proceeded to offer suggestions for fixing his concerns. Breadcatcher and peewee showed that his concern with "too many airplanes" is a false one, assuming that Mingus means "many more than reality."

I attempted to illustrate the inappropriatness of judging fleet boat behavior by U-Boat standards with an attempted humorous post about my trials in a U-Boat judged by fleet boat standards. I hope that the reader considered my squealing about "why do they have to use all these foreign words anyway" and my rant about the metric system to be as ridiculous as Mingus' criticism of fleet boat TDC and "too many planes." I hope people laughed and considered my posts to be in perfectly good humor and without rancor. Just because the American TDC is accessed from the periscope screen doesn't mean the U-Boat SHOULD work that way. I hope they caught my point that someone moving from fleet boats to U-Boats would do best to take my advice: forget what you learned about fleet boats and learn the darn U-Boat.

Obviously you did not. You seem to consider it justification for a righteous claim of martyrdom,

Although I weep for you, I think you need to grow a backbone. There has been no hyper-anything here. It is very clear who is closed minded here and who is opening up the possibilities with specific instructions on how to play the game to whatever taste the OP has, while seeking with good humor to persuade him to do so with a positive attitude of discovery rather than prejudiced complaint.

Default Keyboard Commands

Search for SH4 Keyboard Configurator ver 1.0 by Kevin Castellano June 2007. You can map keys to your heart's content with this tool. Since my keyboard links both enter keys together I needed to map the fire command to a different key(F) so I found this.

Ive posted this many times before but its still funny.

Nothing like hitting that enter key while sailing out of or into port... ooops 'KABOOM"

Anyhow thats the first thing I edit out with a fresh install, well that was before most of the major mods take it out. The decision to use that enter key right next to time compression was not well though out.

Had the same problem with SH3, but it was the other Enter key. When I fly around in external view I hold the mouse in my right hand and use the Numpad '8' key for most movement. If I had to move a long way I'd stretch my thumb over to the Shift key. Guess what's right above it?
