Dissappoinment..maybe??
Hi everyone...
I am a SH3 veteran and regular visitor this forum, as i was in the active duty i found chance to play sh4 yet. First of all i didnt like sh4 as sh3 actually. i was playing with grey wolves mod and couple of other small add-ons. There are some issues i didnt like when compared to sh3 - Some vital functions are missing. range with current speed, i cant see it... i am unable to learn weather conditions also. my watch officer doesn't repeat me contacts if i wish to hear, actually wo buttons are missing. - I cant see features and differences of sub classes in-game (range, weight etc..) - There are no keyboard mapping for some vital functions -Fuel is a huge problem, i cant even patrol and come back to base on some missions. (of course 10 knot is the cake, i know it) - There are zillions of planes, which is unrealistic. i cant even sail for 5-10 min w/o an airplane contact. - Some speech files are missing. -Are there minefileds in sh4?...i sometimes badaboom without any reason. - And no back to base option...come on.. you send me to japan and are you gonna let me die in the ocean :) - A new and stupid TDC, i am having to trouble to use it. Anyway, so far its a disappointment for me...i am gonna check a while, maybe go back to my sh3+grey wolves combo. Nice to seeyou again. At ease :) |

Maybe I didn't make myself clear. Quit trying to turn your Fleet Boat into a U-Boat!!!! I would say the same thing to someone trying Fleet Boat follies in a U-Boat. Learn what a fleet boat is and how it operates and you'll appreciate its superiority. It will make you a better U-Boat skipper too, just as being able in a U-Boat makes me a better fleet boat skipper. Quote:
It's just as tough going the other direction, believe me! But knowing both and appreciating both makes you a better skipper of both. Get with the program, sir! |
Give 'em the stuff. Great post Mr. Robbins.

To be fair, many of the keyboard commands referenced in post #2 were inexplicably deactivated in the vanilla game; you have to go through the commands.cfg file and laboriously re-enable many of them. Or-install a mod like Trigger Maru.

Those guys measure their speed in good old knots, but screw it all up with @#$%@ meters, and kilograms and some @#$# stangenfarnrohr and freakin' kippwinkle. Then there's some contraption called the okularkopf. It's all damned weird. Why do they have to use all them foreign words anyway? You think I'm kiddin'? http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...064817_742.jpg Read it and weep. No human being should have to endure such claptrap. Roman damn numerals on the torpedo tubes. They have a high falutin' opinion of theirselves, don't they? Missed my ice cream too. Makes me freakin' grouchy, that's what it does... |
What you need is some good ole rum rasin ice cream... with real rum :|\\

As to the many planes, in the book "Silent Victory" by Clay Blair he states that early in the war it was common pratice for the boats to be below the surface during daylight due to the Japanese control of the skies. Having to dive every few minutes just wore out the crews so they would surface at night an recharge batteries and do their attacks.

..or just extract the commands.cfg file from TMO and place it in the vanilla version...:yep: |
If you install RSRDC, you will have no more problems with planes. I have went four or five patrols without seeing a plane. As a matter of fact, I am in a S-Boat in early 42 and just strolled through Rabul on the surface (except in front of the harbor entrance. DD there.) and no planes whatsoever.

EDIT: Not that I'd complain about those sorts of odds, I hate jap planes |
I always find these posts so interesting. What do you suppose he really wanted? I collect all unloved copies of SH4 and install them in PC's at the Nursing Home; the Alzheimer's patients just love them. PM for an address.
Time to Roll Out the Lovely Lillies! |

So, you miss your Uboat, do this:
get op monsun iV400 plus patches n the ATO mods get the german language packs get the menumaker and make the buttons as you like them when you do that try the north atlantic or the east coast of england with the minefileds a few months later try the bay of bizcay: stay on the surface wave to the nice guys of RAF coastal Command when they come bomb you PS leave an address for the floral arrangements. you will love a PBY comming at you or a Sunderland Try the east coast of africa and go deep when the RN finds your sub as you approach a convoy Want it easy you say? try going to the east coast of the USA in December 41-early 1942 and in real life: wait two months and try the upcomming V500 see you in the Med if you get there :arrgh!: :arrgh!: :arrgh!: then try Real Fleet Boat or Trigger Maru Overhauled, both with Run Silent Run Deep go find bungo pete say hi to the little fishes SH4 is a different beast with many nice touches.... go all over the world, experience different storms, enjoy the island views, see many CVs, BBs, etc, shoot at japanese submarines.... and soon enough experience complete surface mods in the RN and the Kriegsmarine |
