@ Gairith, yes I believe it will work ok but cripes it would be easy to stuff things up when disabling mods to alter them ... gee did I roll back first, oh I forgot to disable mod in the other mod enabler first, or did I! Hee Hee, would be easy to fluff it up!
I suppose it's not so bad if you had SH3 Commander set to auto roll back!
Cheers mate!!

Thinking about it I can see what JS was saying about like the having a 7c41 turn up when you need it buy utilizing the date files?

Yea Gairith I see what your config is up to using the mod folder of JGSM to load the mods into SHCmdr so youre creating file structure in JGSM that mirror SHCmdr dates and random structure and then into the SH format...

Ha Reece I find the auto roll back function super functional if ya slicing and dicing as much as myself in tweaking setups...

With skins etc they have the same name and overwrite the old so only the later one ingame
Can be same with sounds and cfgs etc
As long as name same the new overwrite the old
Reise, thank you! If course!

Sometimes the answer's too bleedin' obvious!

Now then, does anyone know anything about how the "Randomise Gramophone Tracks" in SH3 Cmdr works?

As in the actual interior mechanics of how it does what it does? No.

How to make it work? Just tick the box. It looks at the tracks that are actually in the 'Gramaphone' folder and assigns numbers. It reshuffles the numbers every time you load the game (I think - that part I'm a little fuzzy on). You don't have to do anything inside the Commander folder to make it work, unless you want to make the tracks date-based.

Hi,Steve,

The problem is:
  • Like lots of people I have masses of tracks in the gramophone.
  • I like to have them randomised afresh each time I launch SH3 through SH3 Cmndr
  • I want to use Date Files to include News broadcasts through the gramophone.
But - it seems my choice is to call the broadcasts "AAAA" so that they come at the top of the gramophone playlist, but that means I hear the tracks in the same order every time; or I randomise, but risk not hearing the news broadcast 'cos it's shuffled way down in the pack and is replaced before it plays out.

I'm trying to find a way to ensure that the news broadcasts play out and keep randomised gramophone tracks????????

Success have the random files up and running! and I "get" whats happening here...

Thanks for your insights mates

@ Von Manteuffel perhaps you can break your music collection into groups and then just add the folders required in to the "date" section of SHCmdr?

Theres some gramphone folders with an odd music file inside in the random section already...JS has already set it up by the looks of it...????

buy creating the gramphone folder in the dates required or to be used?

whilst where on "dates folder" I noticed that JS has dated them Im curious as or if theres any particuliar reason the dates on the folders have apart from the obvious "firing them up"

Reading up in the old posts I have also entertained the idea of leaving port in standard SH gear and as the patrol moves in to a week or two the crew skins begin to be more flavoured "das boot clothes" adding variety amoungst other things...

I read JS has his med skins and the type7c41 all installed in this section to fire up at the right times....

Von Manteuffel: I have a large number of tracks in mine as well, and the 'Radio' file with the broadcasts always seems to play sooner or later. Sometimes I look and it's on the list more than one time. I don't know how it works, or what you could do to change it.

Badger Finn: There are already a lot of dated folders because of the 'StartCampaign' file. The background map changes as the war progresses. I've already done what you suggest: My songs are all in date folders by year of release, so in 1939 I don't hear any 1943 music. Works like a charm.
