I tried the new sounds that come in the ROW sound pack and listened to the breakup noises, they sound good, but in game the HYD version is very quiet. The original noises work well for me I can certainly here the Mogami in the training mission, I have tested this a few times over. You can increase the volume. A lot of the volumes in ROW are off a bit, sometimes I could here the sub diesels but not the propeller when I moved the camera right up to them. I think fiddling with the Sh4.SDL file has to be done very carefully. I'm back to stock sounds and stock SDL now with a few exceptions..

My friend had this problem, maybe it's same issue with you:
If you just unzip Sounds for ROW to Mods folder, it will have another Sounds for ROW folder inside of that one. That will cause that JSGME installs mod into Main SH4 instead of data folder, which has no effect(or some weird one). So check your main SH4 directory, and if you have folder named Sounds for ROW , then you need to reinstall it, after you remove subfolder.Proper configuration should be SH4/MODS/Sounds for ROW/data and then it will install properly. He had same issue with RSRD. |

I don't use Sounds for ROW and I've checked the /data/sound folder quite a bit and it's in the right place. No extra sound folders floating around in the wrong place either.

I tried messing with sh.sdl in the sound folder with s3editor and got nowhere. I tried increasing max radius, raising volume, checking 3d, replacing the sound with something else. None of it seemed to make a difference.
...edit: I also just went back to stock 1.0 off the DVD and took a look at sh.sdl file in the editor and the settings look identical for ship.sink_hyd. I'll try and sink a ship in stock 1.0 and listen for the sound on the hydrophone I guess. Last edited by tedhealy; 04-02-08 at 11:44 PM. |

It definitely works in stock 1.0 right off the DVD. I'll try patch 1.3 next I guess.

It does not seem to be in 1.3. I get the same behavior as I had with 1.4 - I can't pick up the sound on the hydrophone, but I can hear it by flying up to the sinking ship on the free cam.

I'd like to keep up the work, but that is where my ability and know how ends.
My best guess is that the trigger that calls for the sound file to play got wiped out or has a syntax error in it. The game recognizes the ship is there on the hydrophone as it's sinking (the green light lights up, you can ping it and get a return) and you can hear the breaking up sound on the surface, but the correct sound doesn't play for the hydrophone after patch 1.3, but it does work in 1.0. The problem does not appear to be one caused by sh.sdl as far as I can tell because everything looked identical for this sound. That's all I've got to go on so unless someone can suggest some files to crack open to search for what is going on, I don't have a clue what to look for next. |

Yeah, neither have I, nor do I have the time to test and find out...I'm happy, if I can find 1 or 2 hrs on an evening, to spend at SH3/4.

I suppose it was mentioned before, but it doesn't work in 1.5 either.

Maybe it will be fixed in patch1.6 (if any)?
