In order to answer this question and vote on the poll I'm conducting some serious research. I'm leaving Pearl Harbor for my first patrol in SH4 (SH4 1.4 no mods). I'm currently on my, about 35th day in Oct. 39, of SH3 GWX 2.0 patrol, 8 torps left and about 31,000 tons.

So, if I could have only one career...well, that's a tough one which will require further testing to answer; I'll get back to you on that. It's off to the North Atlantic to shadow a co...wait, maybe I need to enjoy the cruise from Pearl to Honshu...Hmmm.

I am and always have been a Pacific Theater enthusiast. SHIV is the first sub sim I've really gotten into since the original Silent Hunter back in 1997. U-Boats just don't do anything for me. I own SHII / SHIII, but I've not spent more than 5-6 hours in either. By now I have hundreds of hours in SHI, and plan on building up that number in SHIV.

Probably skewed just for the sake of locating it in the SH4 forum...

How is this for insanity and keeping my sleep bank solidly withdrawn...

I divide my time amongst these

SH3 + GWX 2.0

SH3 + NYGM

SH4 + RFB

SH4 + TM

What exactly is the point of this poll?

"please try to avoid..."

Uhuh. Thought so.

No point really. I guess to make people think about one career in either theater. What would you think the poll was about?

I have to finish the GWX war first. Then I will try SH4, but with a few crates of German beer aboard .

I have and enjoy both games, perhaps too much. Like others who post here, sub sims are often the cause of conflicts for my family and obligations. I have owned both games played missions, but never completed a career. I've decided to finally complete a career and then give it up. I have never really used a large time compression for many reasons... so too long to complete to play both games. I just wanted to get a feel for what the posters consider would pick at this time.

I'd love to go back to SH3, if it wasn't for one thing...

SH4 has better graphics, but meh. I play at 100%, no external views. Unless I'm attacking a lone merchant, I don't stick around to watch the pretty explosions. So this it's just eyecandy, no substance.

SH4 has American subs, SH3 is German. I like playing the loosing side, since it means things should get more difficult later on... not easier. I don't spend too much time on the moral side of things, since the morality of it occurred over forty years before my birth. Can't say what would've happened if I was born in Germany around 1920.

I can't seem to get a good a grip on the SH4 TDC as I had on the SH3 TDC. Probably since I seem to get lazy on SH4.

All those bad points are negated by one simple thing: The Fatigue System. I feel disconnected from the crew if I simply disable the fatigue... and manually shifting the crew around was too much babysitting for my tastes. My toilet paper reserves got awful low in the SH3 days, if you catch my drift .

Now, if we ever get SH4 to the point where we can model the Atlantic... I'll switch oceans without a complaint. Or if Ubi returns to the Atlantic in a future sim. 'Til then, I'll be happy sailing warm waters.

I agree. I like SH4 the game better, but I much favour the Unterseeboots.

I voted SH4 but i play strictly RFB, I Played SH3 GWX forever and I loved it!! but the eye candy of SH4 is just too good, after the last GWX release came out I gave it a twist but I could only stomach it for about 15 minutes I just couldn't bare the graphics... ya know its funny to think... I used to comment to my wife(fience then) about how realistic the graphics looked in SH3 I just couldn't get over them... well guess how I feel about SH4 LOL. and not to mention I love the way the crew think for themselves (to a degree) in SH4 I don't have to tuck them into bed or wake them up for their shifts anymore that alone was something I wanted, it added a bit of realism for me. I realy do miss the atlantic and those U-boats though, and when the add on comes out I'm getting it straight away!!
