Not at all. A big part of that can be imported/converted from SH3.

There can't be a big load on the engine because US sub patrols took place only for one year or so.
Cool, great to hear!

So this might be a reality:
We're happy working out of Pearl and get a reassignment, transit boat to Portsmouth.

Anyone up for a cruise?

Actually this idea might have more going for it first appears. But with a slight modification....How about instead of just US subs which only have a few missions available for a short time and only for a handful of boats we take the idea further and do RN boats in the Atlantic too? Make it into an Allied sub campaign?

Think about it guys; tons of missions, for the whole war, many of them of a more unusual variety such as recon, landing agents, picking up agants, dropping off sabotage parties etc plus all the usual patrol missions and merchant attacks plus U Boat interdiction off the French coast. U class boats in the Med waged a very successful war on Axis convoys heading to north Africa. Many different sub classes and we've already got one, lend-lease S Boats. This also has overlap to the Pacific and SE Asia theatres. Perhaps that would be a good place to start as it could just be tagged onto existing campaign layers etc.

So what do you think? Would actually be more work than just US subs but think their addition would be more rewarding considering the wider possibilities for missions etc. :hmm:

i'm not a modder but i think that this would be a very hard work...maybe my idea is more simple...we only have to create a new base and some traffic...without change radically the game.
Like with the mod Improved Campaign Layer by Tater wich creatd the Aleutian Campaign....

I agree it would be hard work but, just think it would be an interesting idea. The Atlantic Sharks modding crew are attemping to convert SH4 and SH3 into one game by basically porting in as much of SH3 into SH4 as poss and modding new subs etc for the U boats. So you get the graphics of SH4 but with the game from SH3. If they manage it, adding Royal Navy subs to SH4 may well be a posibility.

If you look on the GWX thread on the SH3 mod forum they have some very nice RN sub models that they plan on adding to the final GWX version. Once everybody has figured out the process for creating new units from scratch in SH4 would not be a great leap to adding them in the existing pacific campaign for use in SE Asia. Perhaps first as AI controlled maybe later as a player contolled sub? I don't know how realistic this is just speculation on my part, I don't know very much about how to go about creating anything like this techwise though.

RN subs have never been simulated in a computer game AFAIK (ok GWX does have some lend lease S boats as AI subs). Admittedly they weren't as numerous as the U boats or as glamourous as the US fleet boats (RN subs are a bit on the ugly side too ) and they didn't sink the tonnage, but they served all over the place and IMO they are a bit of a forgotten chapter in WWII naval history.

Anyway doesn't hurt to kick a few ideas around see where they go.:hmm:
