About 10years ago I bought one for like 300$, it was not the naval version but the regular army version. The thing still worked and was complete with all the rotors and it was a nice display item. A few years later I resold the thing to a vivid werhmacht collector for double the price. Enigma's aren't actually that rare, many thousands are made (just imagine that every unit with a command post had to have one). They pop up from time to time but I don't find them worth the over 10k price. For the 23k price this guy payed I rather would buy a knight's cross.

I saw one go about a year ago for about 13k on a militaria fair (it was a plain one, not with oak leaves and stuff). But I think prices can vary depending on condition, wheter it has the original papers, has the original presentation box with it and so on. But it's a risky thing since so many good forgeries are made these days, you must be 100% certain that it is original if you want to buy one. I wouldn't buy one, too expensive and medals aren't my stuff, I collect gasmasks which are pretty cheap compared to most other WW2 related items.

Depending on the condition and type they'll usually run around 9k - 15k. If you have the original paperwork and case for it the price will almost double depending on the rank or recepient. Recently saw a gorgeous set of oak leaves with swords, premium quality and those alone were 22k.

Here's a great page that goes into a lot of detail about the badges and different awards:

Thanks for the info guys i never realized they were that sort of price, well suppose i won't be buying one for a while. Also i heard that in germany they replaced the orignal ones with ones without a swastika dose that mean theres almost double the number that were orignaly handed out?
