although they're not big additions to your GRT i do actively try to sink destroyers i come accross. because you get MEDALS!, i've sank 3 DD's and some elco's on one patrol and got something like 6 iron crosses etc. my officers all got kitted out with nice shiney new medals and most of the crew and they're happily performing at improved levels *bonus' for medals in your compartments*
plus there's the satisfaction of just plain sinking dd's, there's nothing like two dd's actively hunting you to get the blood up.
best of all one is stationary trying to fix your position whilst the other lays DC's the layer gets to watch his m8 go up in flames for sitting still.

I always try and bag a few destroyers per patrol, to make life easier for my comrades The best I got, I attacked a small convoy and took out the leading escort as well as some merchants, the rear escort piled straight into the mix with the remaining ships all over the place, and in the confusion the destroyer got boxed into position perfectly about 600m in front of me, stopping to avoid a collison For second I thought I'd fluffed it as it got going at the last second but thankfully it slammed into the screws and the whole thing went up

i know, its dumb but you get a reakl thrill out of it:rotfl:
That might be fine early on in the war ...you'll soon find they zig zag as they approach you making it nigh on impossible to predict their final approach location...and there you are at PD :hmm: ....have a nice day...I'm sure the DD will
so far only 1 destroyer has zig zagged towards me, i just waited till the last possib moment
....310 meters away from me

(even though the torp didn run 300m it exploded)

The ocean feasts on thrill seekers.

Personally, I like to blow ballast and surface 10 feet from them and take them down with my trusty Ruger. One shot between the eyes.
haha, I know, but if you read carefully it was my second carreer, and the total of 11 or something patrols before I decided to do that.. maybe i never do it again!

Well, actually, i dont remember well how long it was, but in realtime, and more than an hour.. anyhow, she's down..

Currently on the way back to port, 10 ships sunk, lucky to be on the shipping lane.
But I feel it will be one of the last easy patrols.. they are getting more and more aggresive.

And that means they take their orders from BdU. Doenitz seems to be a double-agent!

I don't mess with destroyers not until 43 when I get my hands on a type IV torp then and only then I take them on with better odds and watch them go dead in the water and start to panic as I close in for the final kill.

Last time I took out a destroyer, I left it a mite late.

Fired at about 350m, it caught fire, I dived, it then sank on top of me.
