You can of course change the reality settings when you create a new Captain career.
Try the single missions first where you can set the reality settings before you start each mission.
This doesn't have anything to do with the realism settings,i have the no map contact option disabled.I can see ships on the map when zoomed out,but when i zoom in i can't,they just don't appear.

Could be the map changing from normal map to attack map.
These maps have different settings if I'm not mistaken.

This youtuber aparently can see ships when zoomed in , i think he was using an older version?
I really want to change this,it makes the game unplayable to me

You have to back up all the ships.tga in sea folder (I made them transparent).
It was intentional because I’m playing with map contact on to get the ships destroyed icons when killed, but don’t want to get the regular ships icons too easy for me…

Could you please tell me how to do that ? I don't really understand what you mean by backup.
And yes regular map icons might be too easy for some but for me it's too hard...I'm not used to it at all.

Edit:Yes, i think i know what you mean now, i also have the onealex mod installed and comparing the .tga files,the ships in onealex are black ,the ones in this mod are transparent.
Is there any way to turn them back to normal? With a program ?
Or maybe do you have the original .tga files?

Just rename the tga… you could use one single tga renamed each time (you don’t need to see the exact ship length on Nav map - choose a medium one to feat all)

Finally ! I renamed them.The game seems to work fine, i hope i didn't miss any file or renamed them incorrectly. Here is the changed folder for anyone who wants to see ships on the map:

I tried to make the ships on the map match their 3D sizes,but i don't think all of them do,so maybe an ocean liner will appear as an fishing boat on the map haha.
FiFi maybe if you make another update sometime you could include this folder as an optional choice for those who want to see the ships on the map.

Also, can someone help me? I am looking for a mod that makes the hydrophone lines red,it seems that all links are dead?

In onealex hydrophone lines are black,straight (no spaces between lines,it's just a long line) and clear lines for merchants and red lines for destroyers, it makes the game easier i guess but i like it....

EDIT: Nevermind the hydrophone lines are also red for warships in this mod , but hydro lines like in onealex would be awesome

I just found my first convoy in this mod,i'm gonna sink it tomorrow.Saved near it, the save isn't corrupted ! A miracle ! In gwx this is unheard of.

Hi Chicken Man.
Respectfully, you are incorrect. You can most certainly save near a convoy, and reload that save in GWX exactly as you can in NYGM, and ostensibly in other mods.

The problem is this is a stock SH3 bug in
ALL mods that users must accept and contend with:

When you save near a convoy or any unit, those units lose their waypoints and become quite 'dumb.' It is not something you instantly notice.... However, if you do nothing and decide to just watch, you can observe the convoy units begin to drift out of formation with each other, sometimes into each other causing collisions as their collision avoidance routine is disabled.

I have yet to find any mod that lives up to the any claim of defeating this bug.


Regardless of what mods you choose to sail with, it would benefit you to do a google search to help make yourself aware of standard practices this community has adopted to mitigate the savegame problems attached to SH3.
