The hell with new weapons until they can balance the races first. Predator needs energy cost for the disc (it is using energy as it interacts with the targeting computer) and slower light attack. Alien needs faster light attack (as it cant now rely on speed as it was in AvP2) and for cryin' out loud make the block actually block the Pred's light attack.

As it is, the Predator is ruling the field in both melee and ranged, which is poo-poo. Make the Alien the melee race, Marine the ranged race and Predator something in-between the two.

I dont see the point if you ask me, the disc is fine like this or do you rather have that homing one from AvP2? there it did costs energy and heck you could home in on anyone without beeing seen as you remained cloaked and the targeting laser was just a small red dot and you would be lucky to see it at all if it wheren't too late.

the thing is easy to dodge if you ask me, done it plenty of time in MP

Having fought melee battles as a predator against the alien in MP they block my light attacks well if you ask me....but if the Predator blocks your quik attack too an then does a light attack your block wont save you as you get knocked down and then the predator has a go at you while your on the ground.

you don't win a continues melee fight against a predator.

Ranges the predator is better?
the Marines win in that compartment, the only problem is seeying the predator as he is cloaked...but if he is stupid enough to giveaway his position he's screwed if you have capable marines around especially armed with that sniper rifle. the only usefull ranged weapon as a predator is the spear...it's slow but it doesn't give your position away if you aim for someone.

Melee? well to stand and fight it wins, but a alien is too quik if you fail to take him by suprise and manage to lay one hit..get out..and make a another attack..ow and Teamwork is always good...the alien nor the marine can really stand on their own.

Yes, it's all good if people use it properly. But people abuse it, they use it as a quick getaway from melee (block+retreat+disc, rinse and repeat). Having it cost energy would make the Predator think twice when to use it instead of spamming it all the time.

And no, I didn't say I wanted it like in AvP 2, I said I want it to cost energy.

Yes, alien blocks the attack, but loses health. Add to that that Pred has the most powerful and the fastest light attack and you see what I mean. Also, Predator doesn't seem to have much problems blocking the alien's heavy attack (at times they stagger abit, but even then it lasts just for a second, just enough for the alien to recover from executing the attack).

Wouldn't that be like saying that the Marine is best in melee given the Pred and alien players are stupid enough to just stand still and not react?

In a perfect world, yes. But the melee system is twitchy with even slight lag, even if you manage to get back on your feet as Alien after an melee encounter with Pred, there's a very good chance that you will either be A) "homed in" by the Predator's heavy attack or B) grabbed from 5 meters away. (this happens with both aliens and predators, which is why I'd like to see more balance between the two when it comes to melee).

Kill marine - 2
Kill alien - 2
Kill predator - 2
Inflict 100 points of damage - 2
Counter melee attack - 1
Capture control point - 2
Defend/attack CP - 1
Assist in kill - 1
Trophy kill marine - 3
TK alien - 3
TK predator - 5
Melee kill as marine - 6
5 kills or more without dying - 5
Kill persecutor - 4
Win a round of infestation - 5
Last man standing bonus of infestation - 10

Well if you talk about the FFA DM you are truly playing THE WORST GAME MODE in the AVP franchise. I demand to see punishment..SLAP YOURSELF THIS INSTANT!

so far most of the time in the Race DM I got help from a guy, as a marine we sticked together and as a Alien 1 distracted by pouncing him while the other went to nom nom nom his brains.

I dont think the races should be balanced out first, its obvious that the netcode is a mayor issue in how a melee fight goes. like I kill someone by just slashing him and shortly afterwards I die claimed as a headbite?
how can that be if I killed the alien before he headbit me?

Haha, I'm not playing it. Just brought it up as an example to better get my point across. Maybe a better way of putting it would've been that the one-on-one fights should be balanced, because on a public server you cant rely to get a teamwork going or there might be instances where there is nobody around or there's only two players etc.

I'm not talking about reinventing the whole melee system, but make small adjustments to the races. Predator has powerful melee, but slower + ranged weaponry, Marine relies on weapons, crap melee and alien has faster light attack which makes less damage than that of Predators.

Online saves my ass! First game after re-installed windows today and bang, saves erased, audio clips erased and online rank back to 1. **** off Rebellion *goes to glitch rank to 43*. Take that you wankers.

EDIT: hmpf... kills etc. are still saved, so maybe I wait a bit on that glitching thing.

- Fixed save games being lost or corrupted if connection to Steam is lost or if user switches to offline play

Multiplayer
- Fixed XP being incorrectly affected by offline play (though only in the local stats; this will be corrected next time you connect to multiplayer)
- Fixed other players sometimes appearing to have the wrong weapon or continuing to fire indefinitely after dying
- Fixed rare issue where players would be temporarily invisible
- Fixed some selection of servers and players in menus sometimes being incorrect

There's been the 'Cross Test Server' up and running for quite a few days already. You can see it with the Steam server browser, now there's two it seems.

Anywho, closed beta would mean that they were WAY late with they dedicated servers, if I'd have to bet, they only started to develope them at around when the demo came and people started to cry about the matchmaking. What makes developers make these idiotic decisions, that I dont know.

Dedicated servers just aren't part of Steamworks, so they need to add it in separately. Guess all the time went to completing the game as it is now, and porting it to PC.

Good news is that they're at least doing it, plenty of others have decided to ditch it altogether.

* just hope I don't have to go begging for a code or something, I'm sick of the matchmaking.

the Match making in general aint bad, its just that you don't know who's hosting it...I had a guy most likely hosting on his Dial up..the pings went from 800 to 1200 for all players yeah sure..thats doable with fast moving aliens and with a delay of about 4 - 5 seconds.

It's also annoying that it sometimes takes ages, making you think you're the only idiot searching for the game at that particular moment.

I just quit the games I get unplayable pings with 200 - 300 is my limit I'm willing to play on.

I hope ranked get dedicated too, a small loby that at least gives you the ping rating of the game. (or at least a small lobby for the ping)
