Dont be so pessimistic, it does sound pretty good, especially if they get something like a dynamic campain. Even if its not top notch, i want to remind you that the SH3 dynamic campain sucked, but the modders made it "pwn", and if this game has the same modding potential, it could turn out even better than SH3.

I'll give it this - if ships with big guns can be under my command (ones that I can shoot of course), then I'd have to say that maybe I might just like it. If its another subsim only like SHIII, then well, I've had enough of WWII in this regard.

PS. A good Destroyer model will change my mind for sure. Like Destroyer Command in a modern form!

Well, to be honest, I didn't like or buy the first Enigma either.
But maybe, just maybe, this new version will be something that
I really like and would buy. I certainly HOPE so but time will tell
once I hear/see a lot more about it....

JIM

PS. MORAL: I will keep an open mind !!

Even though I was hoping for something from the Sonalysts developers, I think this game sounds compelling. I never got the first version of Enigma. I'll have to look into it. What they intend to do with this second in this sim series sounds like it will be entertaining. When they finish this new game, I'll buy it.

Plus, I couldn't play 688i on XP anymore... didn't recognize the Soundcard properly. So, I didn't want to buy it and then have compatibility issues. Just FYI... I am an IT Geek, so I've dealt with situations like this and quite frankly don't wanna mess with the Autoexec's and Config files... Blaster=220 etc... eeech!!!

What's the other Subsim?
Check out Dangerous Waters, it's the newest that also adds playable Perry class FFs, Russian and Chinese Kilo SSs, Seahawk helos, and P-3 Orions. There's not a whole lot more eye candy over SC but it's much better than 688i by quite a ways.

Sorry for the OT, but the second Enigma is worth keeping an eye on. I won't make any hasty decisions. Some form of dynamic campaign is needed in any sim and the "warp-to" option is good (if it's still dynamic).

The first version was infected by StarForce - my main reason for not buying it. I see they say no hardware copyprotection on this new rev however. THis is fine with me as long as its not infected by SecureROM which in my opinion is now worse than StarForce ever was. They have totally flubbed up BioShock with SecureROM, making it a candidate for the worst game release in history. They said they were making a patch to remove SecureROM from BioShock, but I haven't seen it yet. I do see a crack to remove the SecureROM, but I still don't think I want to purchase BioShock until I get something official. To do otherwise is to support this sort of garbage. Now I'm rambling....

Not at all. I have the exact same feelings regarding intrusive copy protection schemes.
It took me 2 years to finally buy SH 3, that is until they released a non starforce official version.
I sadly passed over Bioshock because of the "activation" scheme.
If I buy a product, I'm entitled to install it as many times as I want to, even 10 years from now.
Something that with the present copy protection is not possibile.
How hard is it to learn from Stardock, or from THQ who released COH without copy protection.
Or even Supreme Commander whose copy protection was officially eliminated after some patches.
Same thing with Epic and Id games.
I find it a nonsense to piss off your legitimate customers, you know the guys that actually spend those 40-50$ to buy the game.

Yeah - that is one thing that ticks me off about BioSHock to no end - suppose 10 years from now and I want to run it for old times sake, and they no longer have an activation server running? How is that benefitting me exactly? The pirates still have their cracks and can play fine, but I'm out in the cold. I'm still ticked by that.

Huh.

Eugene, huh?

Man, after Sierra shut down the Tribes team, I wasn't aware there WERE any game developers still working down there! Geeze, if I'd known a subsim developer was in the area....

(AKA, Greetings from PDX!)
Actually there were 5 or 6 that started out of Dynamix just before and after the closure:

Garage Games
Fireline
Buzz Monkey
Bravetree
Tesseraction Games
Pipeworks

Looks like we'll be re-locating our offices from here, but we've been here for 6 years.

Default New subsim on the horizon

OK, been reading all these comments and you're all wrong except for a few who came close. Its the "Turtle" powered by cold fusion and armed with Mk. 48 ADCAP torps. For surface actions the gun is a M1911A1 .45 cal pistol. Seriously, WW1 with the quality of SH3 GWX, or Cold War fast attacks, boomers, Akulas, Typhoons etc. Not really too interested in another arcade style game like ERT. I can get that kind of action down at the pistol range. :rotfl: Rick Martin
