If the ai is improved may get into it a bit more, i keep going back from time to time just in case i can have a good game but no chance. Using SH3 and 4 more, and keep hoping for SH5 to improve, its a real shame, could of been so much and who knows may be some day. But until that day will be keeping a wide berth and just picking at it, from time to time. Not expecting too much from the patch, would need a super patch to make this baby work like it should. Hope that when the patch comes out i find a lot of good reading and praise for it, heres hoping.
I'm all for the AI being fixed by the devs however there was a post in the modding forums that the AI was a lot more moddable than in previous games. It sounded pretty hopeful about the possibility of a really good AI mod if we don't get it in a patch.

Hope your right mate, dont want to keep banging on about the AI but its the only thing that spoils it for me now, here's hoping.

perhaps, if its such a big deal to you, you could start digging and poking around in the AI files yourself, ablemaster

Im thinking it should be a big deal to everyone, the ai at best is terrible, ive looked into the files and changed many things, i can get them to search more realisticaly now but it still leaves a lot to be desired, others have tried also, but the results are only a small improvement, and certainly not as it should be. Mabye just mabye there may be something in the upcoming patch but im not counting on it. It needs to be realisticaly challenging at least that much. Nice graphics shame about the rest of it. Ive used all of the sh's so far and want sh5 to be all it can be, but without decent ai it sinks faster than my type VIIB.

Right,

AI Tactics are scripted and so "easily" moddable.

and as mentionned in the script file :

Quote:
Ship Tactics:
This is work-in-progress; Operation Plaster, OperationSpiralSearch and OperationSinglePlaster are the only tactics implemented.

WIP:
OperationPineapple,
OperationRaspberry
The real problem is that AI escorts uses those tacticts ONLY if they have detected you.
If you are not detected, you can destroy any single ship they "are" escorting without any risk.

Hopefully the devs had time to fix this AI escort beavour and implement those 2 missing tactics in the bloody 1.2 patch.

Monday ... monday .... MONDAY !!!

There is, when they choose to release it... it's called "completing the quality control BEFORE releasing the game as a finished product.."..

Ya I thought that was a list of things that were fixed by mods, but on further reading appears to be the list of potential fix items.

Never mind me, diving to 200M now.

Default Engine sounds.

Correct me if I am wrong please. It does seem to me that while running the engines (Submerged), I can hear the clatter of Diesel, not the whine of electric. If this has been posted already, please excuse this submittal. But although this is not important, it does have a twist that takes away from the realsim (very slightly). Thanks.

Yeah, I have noticed something not quite right about this too. It does seem a little noisy for electrics. There just needs to be more of a distinction between the noise of electric and diesel engines inside the Sub. It should be pretty easy to Mod, I think I'll have a go at it myself.

Edit: Somebody has already done this for SH3 and it works like a charm for SH5:

This morning while getting dressed for work it suddenly occured to me.

We are all Beta Testers. Sure.. we paid to be Beta Testers; but that's what we are.

Yet another oddity that I have not heard reported so far is that when accessing the Navigation Map from anywhere on the sub, whether on the surface on diesels or submerged with electric propulsion...the background sound is exactly the same.

I can be IN the Engine Room deafened by the loud rumble of diesels at Full Speed, hit the Nav Map, ...and get the instant whirr of electric motors to calm me down. Exit the map and I am again hearing the diesels.

Odd...
