BANG! came out of x time to be sitting rigth in the middle of a patrol of 6 DD and got blasted out the water.

Will this be fixed and will the rudder be fixed so you can pick through the degrees of rudder Port and Starboard.
The TC thing can be easily fixed by simply not running at 1500x in your patrol area.

The rudder thing is already fixed in TheDarkWraith's MultiUI for SH5 mod. They are adding a compass in the next patch, I assume that'll include the rudder as well, but no way to know till it's too late.

Thanks for the reply.

But running at x times is part of the game , our would be spending hours just getting to a patrol area. Could go fast than 1500x in older SH game and be pulled out of it when near enemy ships.

I have to agree on this. I'm almost positive that my game auto installed the first patch immediately after I installed the game. I don't recall any option/ user input to either confirm or reject the installation of the patch. The "launcher" certainly auto updates about once per week on average without any input from me.

I guess the safest way is to check the forums befor each game session to see if the patch has been released, and if it has, unistall all my current mods before launching the game?

Great news about the patch though - best news this week. Like many others, I too hope they fix the stadimeter ...... and I really hope I don't have to see any more liberty cargo ships with a German flags on them....... Can't wait for the 12th.

Default Disappointing...

It's a nice long list... easily passes the document weight test. But much of that stuff the modders have either already fixed, or could fix if they chose to (why remove the map tools in dock?). The rest is mostly fluff.

I shelved this game when it became obvious it's just not playable (for me) in it's current state. Unfortunately, there's nothing on the list that indicates they've addressed any of the reasons for that.

Well I've heard this "unplayable" thing here a little too much, it certainly is playable as there are thousands and thousands who are playing it and playing the heck out of it. The online logs prove that, even if the tonnages are totally over the top.
Too bad Donitz didn't have SH5 captains working for him, the war would have been won by Germany in a month, and Britain wouldnt have a navy left, and the ocean would have an iron bottom.

Bugged and missing a bunch-o-stuff yes indeed, but unplayable? No.

You missed the (for me) part.

What I look for in this kind of game is not necessarily the same thing you, or the thousands and thousands who are playing it, look for. What I am after in a game like this is immersion and verisimilitude (sorry about the $5 word, but it's an exact description). I want a game experience that aligns, as closely as possible, with what I have read about the subject. I want to feel like I'm re-enacting history.

The more you know about the subject, obviously, the harder it is to meet that standard. But I got that from SH3, and was hoping that SH5 would improve upon it's predecessor.

Instead, what I found was a game full of bugs, omissions, and questionable design choices, that - from an historical perspective - delivers what can only be described as ridiculous results.

So (FOR ME)... yes, it is unplayable.

You got that from Sh3 out of the box?

Obviously after a few patches and some modifications , Silent Hunter 5 will become without a doubt the BEST Submarine Simulator of the Silent Hunter Series

That's the truth, you can already see it happening. But there's so many people comparing 5 years worth of GWX-ish improvements to SH5 Vanilla and declaring SH5 a horrible game, which it totally isn't nor will it be.

The truth is that some diehard GWX fans will never admit SH5 is better. I know alot of work went into GWX, I personally made a rather generous donation , with the hopes that the team would continue to do great work. Sadly they dispanded and nothing was put out for SH4 (It's not too late guys ). I only hope a strong leader (Kpt.Lehmann I'm looking at you!) comes forth and recruits a new team to take on SH5. Then my prophecy can be fufilled and the Silent Hunter 3 Forum can be closed one year after the release of SH5

Good news. I am sure after the basic bugs are removed, this game will no doubt evolve into a cool experience.

No I didn't get that from SH3 out of the box. Yes, it took many patches and mods to make it so. However, I don't think it was really all the unreasonable of me to expect that after 5 years, two and a half subsequent releases (SH4, SH4 Uboat add-on, SH5), and a large body of excellent work by fans/modders/amateurs to show them how it should be done, they would have at least been able to match the level of game play, detail and authenticity of the earlier game.

I will admit that, realistically, hoping for an improvement upon earlier work might have been a little over the top.

That said, I do think that SH5 has a chance, eventually, to be every bit as good as SH3 w/ mods. Even before that happens, it will probably reach a point where I would consider it playable.

It just isn't there yet... IMHO.

For those on the fence, this makes buying SH5 worth a serious second look.
