Half a kingdom to whoever completes the marine campaign on 'nightmare' difficulty! Hell, I'm struggling on normal, damn those aliens are fast.

As it should be if you ask me, most games on Normal are tame.
so Nightmare should be like a real Nightmare to play.

Ow...what about the Aliens Birthcycle? anything about that?

Ya, but I'm talking about "Dragon Age Origins hard" here, even on normal. The damn aliens can take 20 rounds (read: two seconds worth of bullets sprayed all over the ceiling) and still come at you.

Definitely the hardest of the campaigns, both Pred and Alien ones rely a bit too heavily on stealth making them very doable even on Nightmare.

Not in MP nor in SP with the exception of a cutscene (so no eating thru the ribs minigame ).

EDIT: Might aswell add few (small) rants about the SP side of the game.

Right, first thing that I though was stupid is the Predator's collectable item thingy (trophy belts or something), because if you go into a focus mode, you can see their locations from miles away in your HUD. Kinda, makes it pointless.

Being able to see the statistics of a level without playing it thru again would be nice. You know, to see which difficulty level you played it on and how many collectable thingys you got.

And lastly, the game doesnt save the best outcome of the mission like games usually do (you get a rank when you finish a mission to see how well you played based on different factors), instead it overwrites the scores with the most recent game. (which kinda suck if you want to just go and get the collectable items without playing it "properly")

Aye, started to enjoy it after ranting to myself about all the things I'd like to be my way.

I can see the Alien campaign's going to be like AvP2 campaign was for me, if I ever get bored, it's always there.

MP still needs quite a bit of ironing, especially the ranked match thing, but now that Europe has gotten the game aswell, atleast the wait times are much shorter.

Infestation is hands down my favorite game-mode, but of course they borged it too with having no settings on how many rounds there is (there is only one, when all marines are dead->back to lobby).

Maps still suck tho, I have ruins and jungle sprewing from my arse after a few rounds.

Ow and I take back that marine nightmare challenge. Seems Rebellion wanted to make this a melee game, so if you want to succeed, use melee. So hint for everyone struggling with the marine campaign: Let the bastards come to you, block -> light attack -> burst or two when they are in the ground, rinse and repeat for the rest of the aliens waiting politely in line waiting for their turn.

Bad performance in SP might be due to the taskmanager setting the game's priority to low. Havent checked this tho, but just stumbled upon it.

Turning ambient occlusion seemed to help a bit on my end, still get some occasional stuttering here and there without reason (well, the game obviously loads something..).

Just got my copy.

Still running barebones after Win reïnstall.

Particularly my mouse is being a pita; if I scroll the mousewheel, it scrolls to the bottom or top of the page, doesn't matter how much is in between.

Did you check the mouse wheel settings? (no idea where it's located, I use the godmode thingy) There's setting that allows you to determinate how many lines one scroll notch goes down/up. Maybe it got ****ed up at some point?

Ah, but there's the thing: it runs a driver, but not properly. When I start the config util, it doesn't apply any settings. Stuck with screwy behaviour untill I troubleshoot this thing.

Ouch.

Word from the devs @AVPGALAXY regarding the performance issues.

1) A combination of driver issues and the video memory manager that's used in Vista and Windows 7 under DX10 and 11. We're talking to Nvidia and ATI about this. This may also be responsible for the extreme memory usage that some people are seeing.

2) People using settings that are too high for the amount of VRAM in their video cards. Please note that if you adjust the texture detail settings then you must restart the game for this to take effect. There should be a dialog that advises you of this. Please try using the default Normal setting and seeing if that solves or reduces the problem.

3) The V-Sync and/or Reduce Mouse Lag options. The latter is found under the Controls options menu, not Video. Turning both of these off may help on Nvidia cards. This may be related to the problem described in point 4.xiv in the ReadMe.

As has been noted in this thread, playing the DX9 version instead should also solve this stuttering.

With regards to the low process priority that some people have noticed, this is intentional when you Alt-Tab out of the game, unless you are playing multiplayer. When you Alt-Tab back in, the process priority should return to normal.

Haha, aye, that was fun.

I laughed my arse off at you Arc in the refinery where it was me & potato vs. you vs. hunter. I saw you down one level in that hive type area walking around, I was in the ceiling of the upper level, just as you passed me I hissed and gawd, I haven't seen that good reflexes eever! You spun around in a split-second facing the other direction.

The predator thing was cool, great throw there Hunter. I was abit to the right of Arc at the time, heard the spear hitting, groan and saw the death text, glances to my left and saw Arc collapsing few meters away with a spear right smack middle of his face.

Tho, I must say I still think a less open map would be better for the predator thingy. Open maps make for a good 'scare' game, but for gameplay they are quite boring for the marines as they have almost no chance of seeing the Pred before it's too late. Pyramid might work, has some open areas with high places to sit in on. Or Gateway. Hell, something with a cover.

What say you?

SUBSIM ALIEN HUNT

1st alien chosen in random
- 2nd by having best scores as marine in first round, 3rd with second best scores of first round etc.

15 minute round

Random map
- Or if all agrees, we use a set map

No Smartgun
- To have the marines rely only on motion tracker

Friendly fire on
- So if alien attacks one marine in the group the rest cant just go on rampage and fire without fearing to kill the other marine, gives the alien chance to escape

SUBSIM PREDATOR HUNT

Same rules as above with one addition (which propably wont fly )

Melee + spear only
- To make the Predator hunt it's prey, waiting in one spot and attacking when opportunity shows itself. For example, two marines walk past a tree, predator spears the other then if he chooses he can jump down and melee the other. Also, gives a chance to the marines in open maps to not being killed from past the motion tracker range.

Of course, all rules can be changed if we come up with better ones. Just something to go around the silly pred hunt & infestation modes.

Hunter (left of the screen) & Arclight (right of the screen) try to survive in the Survivor mode (still processing, HD quality when ready):

I say let the marines have their smartgun, they're screwed enough as it is, and let the Pred use what he wants, most of the time those other weapons just wind up giving away his position away anyway.

Remember the start of the match where I caught that combistick with my face? Hunter got raped untill he started tossing those spears.

And why do you think my reflexes are like that as marine? It's because I know I'm in trouble no matter what I do, smartgun or not.
