I've never witnessed that anomaly myself. However, the visual representation is not what logs expended ammunition. If they still have DC's, they will keep dropping them wherever they think you are until they run out... or until they are sure they've lost you.

Even early in the war, when the BDU reports tonnage, it lists lost subs. They did not just commit suicide; somehow, they were attacked and sunk. I suspect it was destroyers .

Early war is starting to bore me at times, it's almost like a shoot off. I don't mean to sound rude but if your getting constantly detected and sunk in early war, your doing something wrong. In other words the game will punish the player for mistakes, as it should.
As far as the DD/Ship turns and speed goes, ok yeah I believe this is not modled correctly but nothing can be done about it, something to do with the games AI? Deal with it.
If a game gets to a point of knowing I can win everytime I play, then the fun is gone imo. So the other day I left the A/T and snuck a viib into the pond, `42. Before I even got to Samalis I crossed paths with a task force. Cool I thought, before I get blasted lemme see if I can drop a BB. Well, I dropped two BB's, a Cruiser and a DD. Got away even, without crash diving.
So where the frack are these 'uber' DD's I've read so much about? Damn myth if you ask me.
I realy doesn't matter if other players agree with that or not. My point is it does a player no good to stay pissed off at a game if they still want to play it with the mods they installed. You can either try something else like a different sub, or learn tactics - ways to play so you can beat the AI.
I've been thinking about a new challenge myself, trying to survive in one of those butt-ugly type IX sonar magnets.

As in real life escort accuracy early in the war is not that good and with a little bit of practice you will be able to attack them with virtual impunity. Nevertheless (again as in reality) ocasionally you will get cornered and you might die even in 1939. That's the interesting part of the game. The moment you hear the ping ping sound you fight for your life no matter what year you're playing at
