It is true what the others say: more ram is always better. You will feel the difference. I felt it when I went from 1gb to 2 gb and from a Ati X1900gt to a Ati 3850, but I already had a motherboard with a PCIexpress slot so it was easy
How many memory slots do you have on your motherboard?
If you have 4 then 4 sticks of 512 mb will do.

More (possibly compatible) RAM on the way. I hope that is a fix.

Two slots only. Yes, I know . My 1995 IBM Aptiva had more. But I had less trouble with Win 3.11, and PC DOS 7.

Also: Is it Radeon 3850, or ATI 3850 ? Budgeted, enquiring minds want / need to know.

Thank you, one and all.

The complete designation is Ati Radeon 3850.
Be careful of the ram you buy. See what kind of ram your motherboard needs (type and frequency). Don't get to cheap. Two sticks of 1 gb is good.
Regarding your budget, it will be good to know where are you from, because I am from Europe in Romania and here the prices are in euros and are way higher than in USA, Canada, or asian markets.

Thank you, bybyx. My second attempt at upping the RAM will not leave another OS discrimination, I hope. I certainly tried to purchase the correct type the first time.

And simply living is a budget for me. (should i get a new card...or food...:hmm: ).

Sledgehammer427 remarked on using Flash Drive technology to increase memory capacity. Do you know that trick, and if so what's the skinny ?

Thank you.
