I voted for the shotgun, only because theres every chance you won't be allowed it if you wait.

If it were me however, I'd be going the telescope. I love space.

I am so torn, you have no idea. Obama can't do much to my shotgun choice right away if he were elected, so I'd have time on that.

The 12" Dob is a massive instrument however. Easily see galaxies and past the naked eyes capability. Massive light gathering, yet still portable due to its ability to break down. The fact that a scope would occupy so much space is why I never bought a large Newtonian yet. Meade has solved this problem however as you can see. That is one bad ass scope - and under $2K including all accessories to go with! Its pretty massive too! Major light gathering power. The scope is where I'm leaning at the moment. I can always buy the shotgun if a bill start going through congress, but I'm thinking the scope is my first want.

So the scope then, huh? Impressive it is. Wife would have none of it if I couldn't break it down into storable parts! I could buy a 10K sq/ft house, and she would still have none of it! Been trying to get a large Newtonian past her for over 10 years, but she doesn't have an excuse on this one. :p
