First, make sure you have installed Jonesoft Generic Mod Enabler (JSGME).

Let's say you have Fubars Das boot VIIC skin.

If you haven't already unzipped it, do so. Inside the folder you should see another folder labeled 'data'. If that's the case, simply take the 'Fubars Das boot VIIC' folder and place it inside your MODS folder for SH3. Usually this is located at:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\MODS

The 'MODS' folder is automatically created when you install JSGME.

Next, open up JSGME and look in the left-hand list for Fubars Das boot VIIC. Click on it so that it is highlighted and then click the right arrow button in the middle to move it to the right hand list of activated mods.

You may get a warning message that the skin is overwriting another texture that already exists. Just ignore that warning if you want to use Fubar's skin instead.

That's all there is to it!

Good sailing, kaelun!

If you have, or are going to get, GWX you should be aware that two of Fubar's VIIC skins don't seem to work well with that supermod. They are the VIIC Med Camo & the VIIC Plain (grey). The telegraph dial on the bridge looks "off center" on both of these skins when used in GWX. His other VIIC skins don't seem to have this problem.

It's a graphic anomaly that has appeared with these two skins when I've used them in GWX. None of his other VIIB/VIIC skins seem to be affected. I wish that I could post an attachment because the picture would explain it much better than I can in words. It's a small but very irritating bug. There was a thread posted here months ago about it & I remember reading it before I joined. I can't find the thread now but I know that it had something to do with hex editing.

I wish that I could. SH III is on my other machine & it's not connected to the web (I really got to fix that) and this machine (6 years old now) can't handle the game. I can say that the left most dial (telegraph?) sticks part way out of it's housing when the player is on the Bridge & looking forward. It does the same thing in Adriatico's "Atlantic Shark" VIIC skin (that's a pity too because it's another really nice skin). The problem appears to have been corrected in the GWX default VII skins & Fubar's GWX compatible VII skins (VIIC 58, U-253, Grey, etc.). Like I said before this bug was in an older thread that I saw here months ago when I was still just lurking (hadn't registered yet) & I can't find it now.

I do not understand. I'm not a skin master, but if the skin is made corectly, when is compatible with mod, then should be no problem.:hmm:

Well. The telegraf on the conning tower sometimes isnt't in the center? Yes I notice it also in my game, but I don't use GWX. Is this a stok game bug, or something else? I don't know, but tga file always look the same to me. Always the same position for telegraph in the TGA file! Also, when I open the correct conning DAT file in S3D, i see the node for the telegraph in the correct place, so i think it is not so great bug.

It's something to do with hex editing & it also was a stock game bug. I'm not a modder & I don't know how they managed to fix it in GWX but they did. The Fubar skins that I mentioned (VIIB Med Camo, U-253, VIIC 58, etc.) have readme files that say that they work well with GWX. The VIIC med camo & plain (grey) skins' readme files don't say this.

I don't know anything thing about skinning. I only posted in this thread to tell the original poster that he may experience this bug if he uses the two skins that I mentioned.
