Pacific Blue?

Kudos to Kriller for all the hard work on PE4, but...I think the water color is off. Here's some shots of my S-boat taken last year somewhere in the Pacific using ROW...

Here's a real life shot of the ocean off the Oregon coast...

and here's a shot of an S-boat using PE4...

Blue color seems way too much to me. ROW seemed pretty accurate. Why the change? Can I still load ROW with SH 1.5 using RFB/RSRD 1.5?

Here's a side by side comparison...these two shots were taken off the southern coast of Luzon...again this is 1.4 with ROW...

and here's a real life shot of Mindoro Island off the southern coast of Luzon...

Depends on the time of day the water in the pacific is shot, exposure, filtration, atmospheric conditions. There are a lot of variables here.

So yes, the Pacific ocean is PE 4 blue.

...but not always and definitely not everywhere in the Pacific. ROW had a variety of hues from very light to very dark...

Does PE4 change with exposure, filtration, atmospheric conditions, location, etc. or does it remain that intense blue? I've just returned to SH4 from a year off and am still trying to catch up on the changes. So far I haven't seen much color change in the first mission and the screens that others have submitted seem to be the same blue without much variance. I think the shot of Mindoro Island is a fare depiction of what the conditions are probably like around Luzon.

Everytime I boot up in PE 4 I imagine swimming in the water and coming out covered in blue dye. For me it's distracting and takes away from the realism. I prefer ROW, at least for the color of the water. Haven't really looked at the other parts of PE yet so can't comment on them.

Has anyone used ROW with SH4 1.5? I'll probably just try it and see what happens. If it doesn't work, I think I'll be going back to 1.4 and ROW.

The new RFB has that vivid blue color too. I prefered the look of TMO.

Thanks Banjo. I didn't realize PE was incorporated in RFB. I'll give TMO a try. Otherwise it's back to the set up I had a year ago.

In most of the places I've been, the water in the Pacific is green (or green-ish). From the surface, the water usually looks blue ... thanks to reflections from the sky. It also appears to be blue if, when under water, you're looking up at the sky. On a cloudy day, the water usually looks gray-ish.

The difference between what the water looks like and its actual color can best be seen along the shoreline, as a wave is breaking.

Notice that the wave (being curved and reflecting less of the sky) is green ... while the water suface looks blue.

Granted, this photo wasn't taken in deep water in the middle of the Pacifc and some might object that it is, therefore, not indicative of deep water color. But even Calvert, in "Silent Running" (page 34 of the hardback edition), remarked that water coming down the hatch, into the conning tower, was green.
