Germany - I like two from there, Erdinger Dunkel which is a Dark Heff (Wheat), and Aventinus Eisbock. They may be using other people to brew the Dunkel though since when it changed its name to Dark, it doesn't quite taste the same to me. Who knows. Its still not bad, but its not the sweet taste they used to have. The Dunkel is about 5% but tasty, and the Eisbock runs a hefty 12% Belgium - The trappists Ale's are where its at here. There are three of them, but only 2 worth mentioning. Chimay (The blue bottle only), and Rochfort (#10 only). The other versions, including the other trappists brewerys have a nasty aftertaste. They Chimay runs about 10% and the Rochfort #10 runs about 11.3% The UK - They have the best porter on the planet - Flag Porter. It is perfect in every way for a Porter. Created with Yeast where a few cells survived from a sunken pirate ship from about 1800. They cultured the yeast and where re-able to create this damn good Porter! Its about 5%. The USA - wow. Where to start? Most of my fav beers come from the West Coast, except Dogfish above. I'll limit it to 3 breweries I guess for this paragraph. Best Cali brewery - Stone! Double Bastard (Which is in season about now) should be almost out. It comes in 22 ounce bottles and packs 10%. It is 'the' strong American Ale. Its lesser Arogant Bastard is not bad, but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it like I would for Double Bastard. They also make other seasonals like the Verticle Epic series which sells for about $1000 last I checked on Ebay for a full set. Fav WA brewery is Maritime Pacific bar none! Best all year beer they make is their Imperial Pale Ale which packs about 9%. They bottle it occasionally. Most times I have to drag a couple growlers down there to get anything though. If I have to get my growlers filled, I usually go after the double dry hopped Imperial Pale Ale. I am in fact drinking a normal double dry hopped (not the Imperial version) Pale Ale from them as I type this. Other favs include the Jolly Roger Christmas Ale as I typed above (I'll probably buy at least 4+ 24 case cases this year at minimum, and probably up this to 10 in all likelyhood if that tells you anything! Besides, it sells for only about $1.20 a bottle!). Maritime makes damn good beer at damn good prices! Best brewery ever! ![]() ![]() ![]() Last brewery for WA is Dicks down in Centralia. They make a nice bitter India Pale Ale. Their Cream Stout is also excellent. They make many beers and I'd probably buy 90% of them. Those are my staples. I of course try/buy everything else at least once. -S ![]() |

MARITIME PACIFIC GROWLERS-We now have our own 1/2 gallon growlers available in The Jolly Roger Taproom. Maritime's custom growlers are $5 plus tax, or $10 plus tax, which includes your first fill. After your initial fill, you can bring it in as often as you like for "fresh draft beer" at a mere 10 cents an ounce.

Cheers for the list Subman.
Erdinger Dunkel is a quality beer, Trappist beers are indeed where it's at and I've never even heard of Flag Porter! ![]() Dogfish IPA does sound Very Interesting, I will have to try and find that one. ![]()
