One would think that as President McCain would not have the luxury of saying "OK I'll drop everything to work specifically on one problem." Surely the job is about solving multiple problems almost all the time.

I just wanted to add in that people here in Mississippi are PISSED about him trying to dodge the debate. The state has spent a ton of money getting the town of Oxford and campus of Ole Miss (where the debate is to be held) prepared for Friday night. A LOT of effort and planning has gone into preparing for this debate.

Default Now McCain camp to propose postponing VP debate

Just saw this on CNN that McCain campaign proposes that the VP debate be delayed. What on earth next? Delay the election.

That is why I think this stunt by McCain will backfire on him. Confessing an inability to handle two separate tasks is not the way to inspire confidence in his leadership abilities.

I can only think that McCain will use this as an excuse for not doing well in the debates. "I was distracted working on real world problems instead"

A very transparent stunt and anyone past 8th grade would see through this.

Perhaps the only thing "President" McCain could focus on is war? Someone has to break the bad news to him that the President handles more things than just fighting a war.

All the President does is multi-task. I seriously doubt that the President ever has the luxury of working only one issue at a time.

What possible justification could the Republican Party have for delaying the VP debate?

Precisely what would Governor Palin be doing that would take priority?

It seems like the GOP is trying every excuse to limit the exposure of McCain and Palin from venues they can't control.

Unfolding for only a year. You are right SteamWake. It is a lot deeper than that.

That's the problem with today's "sound byte" culture. Everyone is looking for the "one cause" of such issues. Well there aint none.

Economics is not that black and white.

It was caused by a combination of actions and inactions by many many people, stretching back decades.

Who is at fault? Republicans, Democrats, and Independents.

We all F-ed this up and it is up to all of us to unF this problem.

You're right, the point I intended to make was that the headline-grabbing credit crunch is not a crisis measured in hours, like something along the lines of 9/11.

I like the below analogy in response to this article on the Christian Science Monitor website:

Quote:
So, Senator McCain wants to suspend the presidential campaign and cancel the debate, huh? Reminds me of the times when I was a kid playing chess with my father, and when I saw I was losing I would “accidentally” overturn the chess board and send the pieces crashing to the floor.

The day McCain presented this desperate publicity stunt of his– in a shameless attempt to yank Senator Obama off the campaign trail and try to grab the political spotlight– was also the same day that, for the first time, Obama had grabbed the lead in a big way for the first time, with 52% of the vote in national polls. Coincidence? I don’t think so….
Couldn't have said it better.

I wnder if McCain has gone back to DC to vote against the Paulson Plan.

That would shake things up a tad.

No, I do not agree with this statement by the Christian Science Monitor. Personally, I think Obama likes playing "Campaign". Basically, that is all he has done for years. Obama likes the crowds! From a very cool movie called Gladiator comes, "Win the crowd, win your freedom." For Obama it is win the crowd and win the presidency. Has he really shown such concern and wanting to be a part of the solution to the banking mess or would he prefer to continue to win the crowd? It looks to me like wanting to win the crowd. He needs to get Washington and do what he was elected to do for the state of Illinois. Not get groomed for his next crowd winning speech from the pulpit. Maybe he will show up for vote this time.

A gamble that completely failed. McCain was exposed last night by David Letterman.

You do NOT screw with Letterman and expect to win the presidency. People have been watching him for many years.

You do not "Suspend the Campaign" because the banks are crying for mommy. Hell you do not "Suspend the Campaign" if Red Storm Rising happened.
