Ok lemme think,i played SH3 and bought a 22' widescreen, then SH3 looked all messed up,and i made the step to SH4,so indirectly thats 360 Euro...usually these kind of games absorb me totally for a period of time,so i bought some submarine books to add to my(now roomsize)collection, including the new submarine encyclopedia(yummy),it was about 50 euro.

New mouse, old one was dying....69 Euro.

But hey it makes it a better experience,it looks great so i'm a happy sailor..

And i allready convinced 2 clanmembers of mine to buy SH4,one has alot of experience with SH3 so its gonna be alot of fun!

Needed a new rig anyways, but around 4k US for everything inclusive.

But BoBII and O.F.F. are an added bonus as they run real smoothe now. I n BoBII I can actually partake in the air battles over London in late August ,and early September with close to or over 1000 planes in the air battling it out. With all the graphics maxed out.

Not having those to start with can be a real help here.

Not much on the hardware front; I had a really old machine (6+ years old) that was due for an upgrade anyway, so I built a new one. Another box was running SH4, it was creaking and groaning with no room to upgrade, but it was just workable (and SHIII ran great). I moved SH4 over to the new box and it runs really nicely there. I wouldn't say that was done for SH4, though.

I bought a stack of books, almost all used, though, about $125 all told?

I remodeled my basement.

Now carpet, sofa, 46-52" LCD TV, and a new monitor for the PC need to get added.

Cost? More than the BMW in the carport outside, lol.

PLease, shoot me.

But, hey, I needed more bookcase space. before my library was mostly aviation and age of sail (and general pacific war stuff). I've since added many many sub books. That's what I've been telling the wife, anyway.

Between the numerous sims (Janes 688(i), SH 1-4, Sub Command, Dangerous Waters, Fleet Command, et al), various machines over the years, quite a few card and RAM upgrades, books, and movies, I'd put the figure around $4000 US. Me likey the submarines.

The original $49 bucks and about 1,000 hours of research time here and elsewhere. No complaints other than the hours.

Not long after SH3 came out i came across 30 books while browsing the main auction site in our country to me i hit the jackpot every book was on submarines of world war 2 from Edward beachs to unknown authors of Uboats and few on British submariners. Favourite book is 'U boat Far From Home' by David Stevens, ive read it 3 times now! . Some are non fiction too alot are stories taken from interviews with ex Uboat commanders/sailors after the war. One i should mention is of a famous British submarine "Unbroken" by Alastair Mars, thats a good story. Im yet to see a mod/missions based on the travels of Unbroken im surprise no one has ever done it. Unbroken went on 4 top secret missions during 1942.

All up the 30 books sold as a bundle cost me $25 all paperbacks some have seen the years but worth every cent.

Apart from that ive gone through 3 graphics cards, 1 sound card 2 gigs of ram added, 19inch montior upgrade from an 15inch. And many many hours on subsim & other sub-based sites, plus lots of good mbs on downloading mods

well, lets see:

A good enough CPU: $500

EDIT: It was ACTUALLY a new motherboard, and a 160 gigs HD, and a 500 Watts power supply after I accidentaly burned (adn I really mean BURNED) my old equipment... luckily after all this the P-IV processor was fine as was the video card and the secondary data HDisk... but let me tell you the meaning of horror... white tendrils of smoke coming out of your main hard disk...

more memory (two weeks later) $80

a nice video card $65 (offer in amazon)

an even nicer card $110

taxes paid to bring in country said cards $60

a new 19" LCD monitor $240

the game $25 in amazon...

books, movies and the like... priceless, they are interesting... any book I can get my hands on.. . having Clay Blair two opus magna by me... say $250 (but I think extremelly well spent)

high quality prints on color $40 of IJN ships silouettes

2 meter long printout of german type IX U-boat $10 - discovering wall not long enough embarasing

time spent on skype discussing upcoming war with both my excellent XO´s (one in Pearl, one in Manila).... abot 20 hrs during the last two weeks

So my friends, is it worth it?

you bet, Im so busy those two-three hours each night I dont make comments I might later regret on my beloved wife soap operas....
