The official patch you should just run from your downloads folder and it should install correctly. You might need to tell it where to install to. Can't quite remember since it's been so long since I installed, but it should be all automatic for you.

Can you give us a step by step process of what you're doing and include any error messages you get?

You gave me an idea. I went to "my downloads" and double left clicked on the patch and it took it fom there. Installed from 1.2 to 1.4 it said. Don't know about my saved game if that affected it or not. If so I'll go back and delete the saved game and retry.

I hope it fixed the clock and gets me to where I am burning fuel now.

Thanks for your help.

I'm pretty sure the change from 1.2 to 1.4 would break save gaves.

You are correct, my saved games are no more. No big deal, though. The patch did install. On the screen at startup it now reflects v 1.4 where I had v 1.2 before.

I had planned to restart my career at the start of the war using manual targeting anyhow. Biggest problem there is obtaining a correct target speed. Kinda strange the game doesn't have a feature for this unless I am overlooking it. The new clock seems to just time torpedo strikes.

I understand some would look at target and simply guess as to speed, others would listen to the prop and tell but there was a way where you would take 2 timed readings and compute bearing and speed using cosines law. To me this sounds like the best way, especiallly if you are already at scope depth and unable to use radar to plot. Anyone use this method?

Finding speed in various forms can be found in these tutorial videos:

The watch does.. kind of work. You need to press the plunger at the top to start/stop/reset it, but it starts immediately, so you have to be quick. It's pretty much crap. heh
