Reminds me of the best Space sim ever - Independence war series.

To achieve near light speed or faster, theoretical physics is used in these sims, including particle accelerators for energy, plasma energy from the particle accel to feed its armaments, you name it, it used everything real how it would be made today if our tech was sufficiently far enough along. Guns track expected flight paths of enemy ships, you name it. Closing rates of 100,000+ (no real limit) MPH while trying to get a gun (plasma) shot off on a small object - bad ass. Period. I won't even get into it since the tech in these sims could fill an encyclopedia.

Einstein if he programmed a space simulator would have made independence war 1 and 2 (1 was better and more down to true physics, with 2 being a little more open to the masses such as not having to manage a crew or damage control much). I prefer the original if I had to choose, but 2 was non-linear and you could do as you feel with 1 being scripted missions. So both had their pluses and minuses.

Newtonian physics are not for the simple masses though which is why I think they didn't do as well as they should. The masses are used to star wars physics. Doesn't work well with the average joe to be accelerating in one attitude yet pointing the nose of your ship in another.... Thrustmaster users were in heaven though!

I will tell you this though, any ship that operated with Newtonian physics will wipe out any Star Wars ship in a heartbeat as the will be able to orient ones nose for a shot where they would not be able to. Fighter pilots can eat their heart out with this ability!
