You didn't say what ship it was so and you said 'deckgun' so I didn't know if it was a merchant with a 'deckgun' or another boat with a turret or something.

The AMC Carinthia upc file, missed a step:

And you need to add it to the UpgradePackSlots.

A gun will load from the .eqp file but it is not playable. Need to create a gun and put it in Library/ussubparts and UPCData/UpcunitParts Weapons.upc and UpgradePacks.upc

right now I'm not worried about the gun being playable, I just want it to fire from the AI control. Will the upc file fix that?

You don't need to worry about 'playable', if it's on the M01 node which the .upc should be and put in properly, it will be playable whether you want to play it or not. I PMed a file to you to use another working upc as a guide from another AMC boat. I think you just overlooked this. Or maybe it accidently got deleted when you were deleting some stuff you didn't need maybe? Whatever happened, it's an easy fix since the ship is working otherwise.
