Default Silent Storm

I have some play money I need to spend. Keep eyeing the screen shots, comments, in regard to Silent Storm on the screenshots thread. I know a couple of ya'll are very fond of the game. Don't suppose anyone would care to give me an in-depth review?

I was also considering Medevial: Total War II, though the TW games tend to engage me for a few weeks before they come one of my 'sporadic' games.

Loaded this up last night, ironically, after having not played it for a while. I definitely have to agree this goes into my sporadic game playlist, however. It's quite fun though. I especially like sending spies and assassins into the AI castles and gathering intel or assassinating a VIP in 'em.

Not a stranger to turn based games, this was my first total war title though. And I was really impressed by the sheer # of units you can have on the battlefield at one time as opposed to some of the old TB games I used to play that had a limit on how many soldiers you could have out there. It's pretty epic.

That the bodies of all those that are slain remain on the field indefinitely as well, was also a nice realistic touch in my opinion. It's cool looking over the battlefield after the fact and seeing your soldiers and theirs mixed laying together and getting an idea of just how intense the fighting was in one particular area.

I have played Silent Storm and the Sentinels expansion.

Good games, if you like turn based. Your units gain experience and level up to gain more skills. In Sentinels, you must purchase your equipment. I found that interesting. The games also sport some rather neat physics and fairly destructible environments.

It's fun to juggle all your teammates. I tried playing with odd teammates to make things interesting. I would make the whole team certain classes and use certain weapons and stuff. Fun way to play imo.

I like turn based rpg games and this series struck me as something I had to try because of the setting. I have never finished the games and it's been a while so I can't really give an in depth review. I could not finish Silent Storm because this one level later on kept crashing the game. I always wanted to restart and see if it would work, but I couldn't bring myself to play through it all again. The game took a while for me to get anywhere. Mostly because the AI turns tend to slow things down. That's a personal opinion, don't take it as a bad thing. There may even be a faster AI turn setting that I didn't know about. I never finished Sentinels do to other games grabbing my attention. Also, I found a sizeable treasure trove in a random encounter. This is bad because it made the game feel too easy. I was able to purchase anything and it lost the interesting 'buy what you can afford, pick up what you need' part of the game that I liked. I think I may start again sometime and finish the game. I should feel lucky about that encounter, but meh.

Know this, the game gets all scifi later on with the introduction of Panzerkliens (mech armor thingy) and beam weapons. I did not know this when I got the game. Personally, I didn't like all that scifi stuff.

Now about Medieval 2. VERY addictive series and a very good game. ONE BIG PROBLEM THOUGH, eventually you may realize that the AI is retarded and predictable. I stopped playing Medieval 2 because it was just too easy.

IF anybody knows of perhaps some sort of mod that makes the AI harder please let me know. I have been dying to get back to that game, but I can't stand the brain dead AI. I have made utterly ridiculous victories that I believe shouldn't be possible. To me, there is a difference between 'Heroic' victory and fighting a larger army full of retards. That's not Heroic, that's just mean.

I played it a fair bit, its fun but it suffers from "Forced Storylinism" I can't play any game where the only point is the storyline.

When I first got it I kept reading about a "Dynamic campaign" but there is none, its a string of missions withi some random encounters that, as far as I know, is pointless.

Though it is quite difficult, so if you like difficult games with a pointless story.

If it had a campaign like Silent hunter it would be my favorite game.

What would make it an epic game is if it had a big map with a bunch of provinces (sort of like it is now) and some sub provinces, and you'd fight a war for each province and the AI would counter attack.

ooh gotta check that out. Thanks!

edit.

Just tried to give Sentinels another chance. I don't see any way to speed up turns. The AI turns drag it out. It was unbearable. Does anybody else feel this way about the Silent Storm games? It's fun, but those AI turns take way too long.
