Most people complain about the SH4 interface... lol... its one of the easiest things to change!
Remember what OLC did with SH3 interface with his GUI? Its that simple! Its all in the menu_1024.ini (or something like that). We might make it just like SH3, or even better! In fact, I might do it myself... :hmm: Remember... SH3 Stock was total crap compared to SH3+all of today's mods. And so is now SH4 Stock... it looks like crap, but stop to think how great it will be once it reaches the level of mods from SH3, it will trully be the best of the both. Now, a lot of people might think "but we will never have a full atlantic campaign playing as germans", and I reply: We WILL have that, and even more! Just give the modders time to settle down and improve SH4. If all the copies of SH3 disappeared from the world today, SH4 would be in top form in less then one year. But with SH3 out there, people will stay put, coz its comfy... so, patience, right? I'm moving on to SH4, not because its better, but because it CAN be better! See you all there, in some months!

"Perhaps it's just as well. Who knows what kind of idiot they would have sent you. One of those new found warriors, all wind and smoke."
When IV can be played with that 'Das Boot' feeling that III has, then it can be a great Sim. Damn freakin. ![]()

As one Dan to another you hit the nail on the head my friend. When SH4 can offer me the thrill and dangers of a full Atlantic campaign i think that would be the time for me to move over. Till then its the Atlantic and GWX for me. |

I heard that convoys scatter realistically in SH4, instead of just doing that "weaving" thing they do in SH3. That's the only thing I've ever heard about SH4 that made it sound any better than SH3 to me - unless you count the SH4 graphics which my machine can't run.

Well, there's the more realistic crew management system. My computer won't run the graphics either. In both sims there are things that I love about the graphics, but if I played as realistically as I'd like I wouldn't be able to see them anyway.
I agree, and have said more than once, that I believe SH4 will eventually replace SH3 altogether, and this would happen sooner if as the OP said, all modders were to move immediately. But you can't tell people what they have to do. If people want to continue to mod SH3, great. I'm not ready to make the move yet; SH3 still has the more immersive gameplay where u-boats are concerned. Some day; just not today. @ Philipp Thomsen: I had no idea it was possible to have SH3's interface in SH4. I love those little officer icons, and my biggest turn-off so far is all the tabs leading everywhere.

About the comparison between SH III and SH IV....
Both sims are wonderful, SH4 may have some better graphics and thermal layers, but sadly has some rere bugs wich was unsolved from early times, and after many mods, some times the game do not react to changes. SH3 is much more friendly to mod, but sadly has not thermal layers modelled, and water grafics are a little bit down under SH4. Finally... both are nice and wonderful, but that we need is a new SH3, may be SH5, german U-Boat game, in the Atlantic, and may be both in one, with USA Silent Boats in the Paciphic... with the best of both sims. ![]() |

i think for fleetboats SH4 is just great, with some mods
of course. but for u-boats, i don't know, i have the bad feeling some code (controllers, emblems) where just left out and some things just doesn't work in SH4 (e.g. the lights controller for torpedo tubes), but it's these small things that make SH3 great. a real SH3 experience in SH4 will be a LOT of work.. |

My opinion of SH4 is well known.
it was barely playable out of the box and that is a core fundamental of any game... the damned thing must be playable, and SH4 flat out failed. games are not about pretty graphics... for example... i LOVE pong and pac man... both pixilated out dated games, but they are playable and enjoyable and thats what its all about. it took way to many mods for SH4 to even approach playability out of the box. second to that... the characters in SH4 look like they are cartoon characatures. Agreed that the character models in SH3 look artificial, but i would rather my sub was crewed by artificials than a buynch of elmer fud look alikes. their words dont even match up with their animations. its like watching a bad... REALLY BAD 1970's kung fu movie which was translated by a bunch of Japanese 5th graders taking their first semester of english as a second language. it really takes my chief engineer - a sweaty, beer gutted, fat slob excuse for an officer - 10 seconds of animation just to say "surface the boat". its like watching a brain dead ape try to figure out how to peel a banana I've installed SH4 two days ago to give it yet another chance. i cant put my finger on it - but even with a great mod like trigger maru SH4 does not "feel right". Ubi even realized their error and tried to salvage thsi train wreck with the release of the U-boat missions - as if to say "oh here is a novel idea... lets only just NOW try to give the customers what they want." but i didnt even waste my time with that! aside from that the ONLY reason SH4 occupies space on my hard drive is in pure anticipation of the release of the SH4 GWX version. i hate to put pressure on the GWX4 team by saying this... but the entire fate of SH4 with a lot of SH3 fans weighs most heavily on the results, look, feel, stability and cleanliness of GWX4's final release. meaning - i cant speak for everyone, but if GWX4 doesnt save SH4 - i WILL microwave this piece of white crusty dog turd of a game. I have accumulated tons of play time with SH3 because - honestly out of the box SH3 is GOLD. but SH4 on the other hand... i think i have completed 3 or 4 patrols - and it has been shelved for a majority of the time since the date i purchased this regretable waste of a game. out of my entire collection of PC games which spans literally decades... Silent Hunter IV... you... YOU!!! are the shining example of epic failure. nuff said ![]()
