I have known a lot of Potheads growing up. Not a one of them amounted to jack squat. I am not sure whether it is because the dope makes em lazy or if it is just some other inherant issue.

My apologies. It was Alexis de Tocqueville. I knew it was some dead guy.
:rotfl: "Some dead guy."

I've never read de Tocqueville, and always meant to. I've heard a lot about the French tourist who thought America was the greatest place in the world.

So what side on the issue of the drug war is moot. McCain will not Stop it, Barr will not stop it, Obama will not stop it, etc... Feel otherwise? Run for congress on the plan to shut down the drug war... See how fast your political enemies call you soft on super dangerous drugs infecting the children lives.

The drug war on other super dangerous drugs is worth it to keep prices high and out of reach for many youths. That will not change.

Oh........... you crushed my platform with pragamatism.

Have to agree with you that the theory of legalizing drugs and actually getting that passed are two very different things. I know that legalization is nigh-impossible but that won't ever stop me from advocating it.

As far as the idea that the drug war is worth it because it "keeps prices high" and "out of reach for many youths" is concerned I see two major flaws in that line of reasoning. Firstly, there is an abundance of evidence that when people cannot afford drugs they steal them or steal other things until they can afford them.
Secondly, the drug war does anything BUT keep drugs out of reach of youths. I don't know how to specifically support that, I mean, just look anywhere. Look how ineffective it is at keeping kids from getting pot. Kids also get alcohol and tobacco easily enough despite their prohibited nature. If "hard" drug use is lower in schools than pot usage or alcohol and tobacco usage it surely isn't because of the war on drugs. It is because there is less of a market for "hard" drugs as even 6th-graders generally know better than to mess with dangerous drugs.

Ultimately, Zachstar, I will still have to concede the field to you because my views are all but impossible to implement in the U.S., but I still stand by them.

High Price + Unpopularity + Education = Reduction in Hard Drug use.

And if they are stealing to get the drugs it is usually because they are already addicted in the first place and that is outside the scope of this discussion.

But like I said. The "pot" will not be in the same locker as the "Crack" so those lockers will be visited less. The "pot" will be in the locker with the "Cigs" Which is bad but I would rather them go to that locker than the drug dealing locker.

Get rid of the pot war and you will see how fast this generation turns it back on the other stuff. When the .gov is no longer the enemy they will be more likely to shun the drug dealing *******s. They may go so far as to actually start reporting them.

But one step at a time. Lets get rid of the moronic pot laws and get some money into research. The primary problem will be how people can consume the pot without smoking it and it be "cool" at the same time. Because smoking anything is still extremely bad for the lungs.
