Okay, okay - TBH I would much prefer alive.
As part as an effort to improve the stock Silent Hunter 3 shipping I have been busy for several days creating new versions of the T-2 tanker. I want to make sure that they work on as wide a variety of setups as possible. The model is almost finished and there are dozens of skins ready but I have only had one person so far volunteer to test it. Please let me know if you have the time and interest, and mention what setup you use (NYGM, GWX, vanilla or whatever). I would also appreciate it if anyone knows of US oil companies that used large tankers at the outbreak of the war (I already have skins for some of the better known operators). Thank you. |

While I can't help you out with a beta test at the moment, IABL, I can give you some company names to work with. Some you may have, some are a little less known.
Standard Oil Of New Jersey (also called Esso, pronounced S-O, what we now know as Exxon) Standard Oil of New York (Now called Mobil) Standard Oil of California (Formed from CALTEX Oil, became Texaco and Gulf in 70's and 80's) Humble Oil Of New Jersey (A subsidiary of Esso) British Anglo-Persian Oil Company(Now known as BP) Cities Service Oil Company Atlantic Refining Tidewater Associated Oil Company Shell Oil Company (Still known as Shell) Socony-Vaccuum Oil Company Sun Oil Company Pan American Petroleum Interesting note. Most of these companies were also the source of the major funds required for building The Big Inch pipeline. The Big Inch was a pipeline that ran from Texas through Arkansas to Pennsylvania and New Jersey. It was used to cut down on shipping traffic through the Florida Straits and up the east coast, due to the threat of uboat attacks. Hope you find this info useful! ![]() |

I don't know about older large tankers, but the first T-2 appeared in August 1941 and was taken into the navy shortly after. A lot of T-types sailed in civilian service, but not until 1942 or later. Here is a good set of photos of all T-types. Most of the interesting civilian ones were taken after the war, unfortunately.

I just registered, but have been keeping my eye on the merchant fleet mod for some time. I admire your work!
Consider me another volunteer if you still need a beta tester. (running GWX 2.1) Please let me know when you get a chance. Last edited by Revere; 07-22-08 at 08:51 PM. |

Thank you very much for your support, people (and thank you, Friction, for the info). I am going to try to upload the beta early tomorrow morning. Hopefully the final version will follow Friday or Saturday (if no major problems are reported). You will receive the link & password by PM. Any questions/comments, please post them on this thread.
