Default Problem with options

Hi all. I have a little problem with the Gameplay options of SH4. I want to have external camera, and I want the map to be updated with the sonar/visual reports. So I click on these boxes and load my career game. But when the game is loaded, I got no external camera and the map does not have any ships visible on it, as if the changes I did in the main menu have been ignored. And when I go bakc to the main menu from the loaded game, the gameplay settings are exactly the same, just like i had never ever touched it!(And I am careful to click on the "apply changes" button ,and not the "quit" button) Any suggestions? Note that I use TM and RSRDC mods.

what difficulty level are you choosing? I noticed when setting up my sons game tonight (he's 14) that on easy level the external view did not work, but when I setup my game on hard the external view did come on. So to answer your question, I do believe the game chooses what options it will allow based on difficulty level of the career.

Well.. when you change the boxes yourself, the options change from hard to custom or realistic to custom etc...I tried it anyway and didnt see any difference. Is it the mod's fault, or I should reinstall? (Oh God this is gonna be bad ).

When you start your career in the career office
move your cursor over the books on the shelf
on the left

the top left one that pops out is career options
selection screen. set it there and that should
take care of it.

You're trying to change the settings during a mission right? I think the changes that you make in the main menu will apply to new careers (and possibly single missions and the like). If I'm not mistaken you'll just have to sit out one mission with those unwanted option and change your settings next time you reach your home base.

Yup, you have to wait till you get back to the office, and then mouse over to the cabinet like MM mentioned. Except, it's not one of the books, but the radio on top (sorry mate );

Just got back into the game after a long break and this problem was driving me crazy also. The "options" for the U Boat missions is the file cabinet in the upper right of the German office. That apparently is the place to set up gameplay options so they actually stick.
