Default Installing the SM1MR

Okay, maybe I'm a bit ignorant, but how can I install the SM1-MR on the ffg? I've downloaded the files from TLAM strike and I've tried to run the program, all that happens is a short black DOS screen and when I reenter the game the SM2's are still onboard. I must admit thatI find it very confusing, is some other program needed apart from the installation file?

I tried to find the files at TLAM and Bill's sites but didn't see anything, so I have to take a stab in the dark.

The DOS screen is just a .bat running that installs the graphics into DW so it can be referenced in the database. If the files didn't include a replacement database then those graphics were never referenced and you have to do that yourself. You'd also have to change the stats around yourself (and create an SM-2 copy to load onto the appropriate ships).

Which brings up the next possibility. There is no way to change what weapons are part of the loadout of any playable platform. What can be done, if for those weapons themselves to be changec. So, even after the DB changes are made, the "SM-2" will still appear in the loadout. The SM-2 will just have the stats and model of the SM-1.

@Molon Labe

Once again you come to my assistance Thank you very much

Well the zip only contains 5 BMP's showing altered menues onboard the FFG (SM1 instead of SM2) so you're probably right, they're not referenced and imagining what night mare this must be I think I'll chose the second posibility

You might be missing the cmputil.exe. Run them in the ffg7 interface folder.

This wasn't really a release of a mod just something I cooked up for the next LWAMI.

We put it to a vote on weather or not to switch the SM-2 to the SM-1MR and the vote tied so I don't know if we will include it.

@TLAM Strike

Thanks for your reply

I already have the cmputil.exe, but I can't make it work I've been on the commander's academy site and I've downloaded all of their tools in their for unwrapping and rewrapping DW graphics files, but I can't make any of them work which really annoyes me since I've downloaded a graphics altering program which is of no use to me now since I can't get the files out and/or back into the game.

Regarding the including or not including the SM-1MR, I think it should be optional if possible

What you do ? What exactly does not work ? Is there something you don't understand in the guides how to use the utility or does its behavior differ from the guide ?

Unfortunately 'can't make it work' is of little use for us. You must help us help you

@Dr Sid

I'm sorry for my very little informative way of putting it and I do want to remark that I certainly am not blaming the people behind the utilities but myself since I'm a complete newbie to the use of these kind of programs.

First of all there are no really guides in the programmes I've downloaded, I assume this is due to the fact that most people know how to operate such programs. I've downloaded the programs "decompress utility" and "cmputil.exe" and both zips only contain a DOS program icon. I've tried unzipping it to the DW directory and run it from there, but all that happens is that I get a short black glimps and then nothing....

I'm sure that I'm doing some kind of mistake, but as previously mentioned....I am new to this

The cmputil program causes some lines of code to run in DOS which will close when completed, so your observations aren't inidicative that anything wrong is happening. The cmputil and the associated files should be run from the Graphics folder though, so if you're not running it there, then cmputil is not accomplishing what it is supposed to.
(EDIT: and apparently, TLAM has a similar program for the interface as well. That would be run from the interface directory, again, with any associated files [if such files exist]).

Again, I want to stress that the cmputil will only make the SM-1 model available in the database (EDIT: or make changes to the inferface that make the SM-1 appear). It will not cause that model to be referenced by any entity in the sim, nor will it change the stats of the Perry's SM-2 to be that of the SM-1. Those changes need to be made in the database.

@ Molon Labe

So what I gather from your statement is that there's a cmputil programmed for either the graphics folder in DW or the interface folder and not, as I thouoght, for DW in generel and that changes in graphical apperearences does not mean changes in physical capabilities of the models....this I had never expected though

:hmm: So what I have to do now is to try to run my version of the cmputil from either the graphics folder or the interface folder and se if it will work in any of them....would that be correct?

@TLAM Strike

Oh by the way....if you have a program to succesfully retrieve and insert files in the interface directory could you possibly point me in the direction of a place where it's possible to download this?

It's hard to say for sure because I haven't been able to look at the files myself. I would hope that the stuff you have has adequate instructions as to what to put where. All I can say in the dark is that the cmputils take files and install them into DW files. That's how you get new 3D models to be available in the database. From what TLAM has posted in this thread, it also seems that a change to the interface can be made the same way.

@ One Shot

Yes I have That's how I came across the programs I've downloaded, but regarding how to use them the Wiki says follow the instructions of the program

@ Molon Labe

Yes, okay I understand, but does the cmputil need to be told to install a specific file then, for example the loadout file, or will it install any old file that one has altered? I've tried running the programs both in the graphics folder and in the interface folder, but it made no difference. TLAM's SM1-MR worked though after I put it in the right folder and ran the installation file from there, so now I've got the SM1-MR interface. I think that what is wrong is that the cmputil does not know what file to install and the decompress prog. doesn't know what file to decompress...I think it has to be told, but I don't know how to do that. Anyway, thanks for helping

Well it looks like you're fine then. But yeah, cmputil needs to know the name of the target file and the name of the source file. Just as an example, the command to install "SierraPROP.bmp" into the 3D archive would be "cmputil 3d SierraPROP.bmp". That's in the link Oneshot provided, too.
