The Israelis are one of the tops in this field,

They have automated recognition cameras tied in with auto-tracking weapons for their autonomous border and facility security.

We did an evaluation of one of their tracking cameras and it was pretty impressive. Very few false positives (which is real important with weapons)

What this kid did seems to be focused on movement detection and tracking, which is still pretty damn impressive.
