The threat to attack Iran is very real to me, from Israel's threat if Obama is elected to President Bush's fleet exercises off their shores.

It feels wrong to think we could be doing their society a favor with a direct hit on their nuclear power for weapons program.

They would have to start all over again by over throwing the present regime and installing a pro-western president and cabinet.

Sort of feels redneck in a way, but what if it really happened?

We tried that already in 1953. Now look at where we are.

It worked for a long time! Why not again?

Because it is a ridiculously short sighted, hypocritical, dangerous excuse for a real foreign policy?

What was that Japanese emperor's name back in 45?
Emperor Hirohito I think ... Japan got the hint, unconditional surrender

After we killed 3+% of their population. After we nuked them. After we stationed ~350K-400K (Including Brits, Aussies, New Zealand and whatnot) troops /when there wasn't even an insurgency worth noting/ to ensure nobody "tried anything". Yes, then they submitted unconditionally and we put a government there without anybody having the will to resist.

And we can't do that anymore. Not without a draft and the public widely backing a war. Bin Laden killed more American civilians than any Axis power and how many troops were stationed in Afghanistan?

Apples and oranges.

Even if we killed 10% of Iran's civilian and military population and stationed 500k
international forces there we wouldn't have anything near peace in the region for a
long, long time.
