Glad to hear it snakeyez,

Well i've moved over to the Red-Side fully now (ATI)

When i get new motherboard and other card or cards, I'll build a rig with my now spare gts 640 so if any better drivers come out i can post back

I see nvidia's dropped their gtx 200 cards but here they're still damn expensive

Default New Problem

Now the installer dosen't seem to do anything it just runs, and apparently aborts halfway through:

It's not even creating a new NVIDIA folder anywhere and throwing files into it.

Any ideas?

Hiya,

UAC is it on or off ??

If uac is on, All's i can think (again not having vista x86 installed now) is remove drivers from programmes and features and allow uac etc etc

When that's done (driver sweeper has to already be installed) reboot, As it starts up from reboot, Keep hitting F8 key until options show

Choose Safe

When in to windows whatever popup/s come on cancel/ignore/no accept etc

Then run driver sweeper twice, (Choosing just nvidia display option only)

Reboot and it will then come into normal mode, If it does offer to install a driver cancel it

Install either but (Try this one 1st, Tried by 20 others with no problems installing) http://files.filefront.com/WinVista3.../fileinfo.html

Or this one (should be exact as above) ........
http://files.filefront.com/177+26+Vi.../fileinfo.html

Will try and get back to check later to see if it's installed ok

ps: Out of the tens upon tens of install/driver variants i tried, I think i had several occasions when your problem happened, If i rem right the remnants of drivers weren't fully removed and i may of tried to remove drivers in normal mode

UAC is off.

Heres what I'm about to do step by step:

Currently im in normal mode with no video drivers installed of any sort.

1. Boot into safe mode

2. Check installed programs list and C:\ for any trace of Nvidia remnants.

3. run drivesweeper for Nvidia Display twice.

4. Reboot into normal configuration

5. Run the setup.exe located within the winvista32(177.26) driver folder on my Desktop.

6. Hopefully it will complete the install and then I reboot into normal mode and everything works.

Now im off to see if it will work as planned....I'll post a follow up shortly, thanks for all your help.

I may be jinxing things here, but I'm going on 4 days now without a lockup. The cure? Rolling back my mobo bios to a Jan 2008 version. There are 2 newer bios I had used and I can't really remember the crashing starting after installing those versions, otherwise I would have looked into rolling them back a long time ago. I swear I had used those for at least a month before I began noticing crashes.

I'm not out of the crashing woods yet as I've gone 4 days between crashes a few times since this started, but I'm optimistic If I can go another 3 or 4 days I'll be able to say problem cured I think.

Kind of odd that my crash dumps would blame nvlddmkdm.sys.

Hopefully my next post won't be holding back curse words from another lockup when I thought it was cured :rotfl:

I have now installed the 177.26 drivers. I ran SH4 1.5 with PE3 enabled, using my standard Test Mission (the NSM demo with stationary ships as targets....this allows four controlled nearly simultaneous explosions). Previously, it had been 100% crashes with the first explosion or DD deck Gun firing at me. Running SH4 1.5 with W_Clear's EE Mod, as I have reported elsewhere in several threads/forums, I previously had 90% success with some drivers but only with Post Processing and/or Envrionmental Effects turned off in In-Game options.

My 177.26 results, with all In-Game options enabled/maxed: I have not had the CTDs/BSODs which have plagued me for months with all other drivers when trying to run 1.5 with Pacific Environment Mod. I've not run a "full" mission yet, or a campaign/career patrol...but so far, it looks like these 177.26 Drivers are the solution!!!!! Keeping fingers crossed for the time being, though.

I have another custom Test mission which has 6+ DD's charging/attacking my sub, with extensive Deck guns firing, plus I get to make some simultaneous Torp hits/explosions. If I get the CTD's/BSODs I'll report back here. Otherwise, Silence from me means continuing success with 177.26 drivers.

FYI...My Rig:
ASUS P5N32-E SLI
Dual core E6700 Cpu
2GB OCZ PC2 8800 (1100Mhz) RAM
BFG 8800GTX w/768MB Graphics card
Audigy2 ZS
4 Seagate 400GB hard drives in a 0+1 RAID array
Plextor PX-800A
Samsung SyncMaster 244T 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor 1920X1200 native resolution
Windows VISTA 32bit

Glad it seems both of you are fairing well

Hope no lockup's etc occur for you two

I must say, Going back to ATI i really do notice how vibrant and crisp things seem now in game

eg: The ocean looks more darker and richer, Searchlights are blinding not that weren't before but again seem richer and cleaner

Well hope Tronics has finally sorted his driver install, He's not posted back

On about bios flashes Ted, I have had that many mobo's since 1995 i've lost count, But on at least 2 occasions i had to roll back to stop weird things happening

Good addidge, Especially where mobo bios and GPU drivers are concerned, Unless you're having problems leave well alone, With drivers of course try them and if required rollback etc

Well hope you continue enjoying a problem-free SH4 1.5

Doolittle, I am posting to see if you are still having success with those modded 177.26 drivers. I am still having 100% success with them, not a single CTD yet with hours of play.

Have you done any tweaking, like more anti-aliasing or such?

No CTD's....No tweaking adjustments...Everything seems to be going perfectly..

However, I only get in maybe two hours of SH4 sailing every 3rd or 4th day, so that may or not be adequate testing to be absolutely positive.

My opinion is that the 177.26 drivers fixed everything. I had NO success with any of the earlier drivers over the course of several months.

I'm satisfied/happy.

Glad to hear things seem stable (no crashes etc)

I've moved over to the dark side, Err i mean the red side (ATI)

Couldn't be happier with the 4870

Takes everything i throw at it (except for some reason when on external view and i look at sub or anything upwards where the sun is shining i get stutters)

Then again no "proper" driver out for the 48 series yet but end of the month ati release their drivers

Hope all continues to go well for ya's

My problem did eventually come back after about 7 or 8 days (random lock ups that happen while idle or doing anything with nvlddmkm mentioned in the minidump and the video card + drivers mentioned in vista's problems and solutions). Rolling back the bios did not fix it.

Even though I've run numerous ram tests, I think I'll try alternating/removing a stick (2- 2 GB sticks) if I get crashes with the latest nvidia 177.66 beta drivers from guru3d. If that doesn't work, I suppose I'll live with it until I get an ati card.

Default Defiance: thank you!

Thanks for making these drivers easily available. Followed your instructions and loaded 177.26 drivers for my Nvidia 8800 gts 640 mb. Thanks to your clear instructions it was done in about 5 minutes. Overclocked GPU with RIVA tuner: 600mhz/1400mhz/950 mhz. Fan at 100%, temp below 70 degrees celsius. Mobo ASUS P5N32-E SLI. mem 4GB. Great fps: > 80 at the moment of explosions from my torps, Running TMO/RSRD/some smaller mods.

And the occasional crashes are gone! Running smoothly for several hours now and downed 4 ships without any stuttering whatsoever of the display. (normally had a crash or two when I play for several hours and after a few torp hits),

Hope it stays this way, because there is nothing better for a rainy sunday afternoon then SH IV

Thanks
