:rotfl: Those must be powerful drugs.
They sure do look pretty crazy from the commercials. "This medicine is to make you happier, but side effects may include suicide."

Back on topic, SubSim is very tame considering it has a loosely moderated GT forum. All the other sim forums I go to have tried that and had them shut down pretty quick. Guess we naval simmers are just more easy going, and enjoy taking a few hours updating our solutions before actually pulling the trigger.

Just to give you guys the gist of things, I made some comments about this and meandered through thoughts comparing army attitudes today, with the days of Sir Richard Burton in the early 1900's. Somewhat obliquely, I agreed with the fact that attitudes today are far removed from how they are remembered from Burton's day - All handlebar-mustachios and glorious cavalry charges and all of that General Melchett (blackadder 4th) foolery. Whereas now everyone treads on eggshells and talks in double-speak, lest they reveal so much reality that it clouds their long-term political goals. At least in the past we made no excuses for blatant empire building and heroic personal aggrandizement; 'death or glory' if you will.

This was predictably misinterpreted by the local old boys as a fiendish attack on our armed forces and the sacrifices they continue to make in far flung places of the world. The result of which I was called some most insulting things, then the thread was deleted by the moderators and I was denied access to that section of the board, whilst those with the foulest mouths I've encountered from so-called 'elders & betters' are chatting away as usual.
It didn't take very long to decide to cut loose the useless baggage and leave. When there's no benefit or gain from a partnership, the only right thing to do is leave.

Any group of people willing to spend time listening to propellers, struggling with applied
geometry and aqua physics for fun aren't going to be much of an angry rabble.

I came into this thread wondering what I said to Jumpy to make him leave. Thankfully, this had nothing to do with what was being discussed. Anyway, GT can be loosely moderated because the SubSim membership's decorum allows for it to be so. I think that a lot of this has to do with the fact that almost everyone keeps in mind the truth that we're really here to discuss, anticipate and modify naval combat simulators. This perspective tends to keep things from flying out of control, and allows most of the heated political and religious discussions to flicker without moderator intervention. This, in turn, allows the moderators to be, for the most part, invisible, which is much nicer than having them breathe down the member's necks all of the time. Who would want to be involved in such a forum?
