Default How to start near your patrol location like in SH1!

Okay, if you want to start near your patrol location, like you did in SH4, some editing is required.

Go into:

\Data\UPCData\UPCCampaignData

and open up Flotillas.upc

(don't worry, it's just a TXT file renamed differently)

You'll see some stuff; but what you want to look for is:

DepartureDescriptionOut1

Replace the value for that flotilla's DepartureDescriptionOut1 in there with:

16887670, 2520495, 236 - A little bit south of Iwo Jima

And when you start the game and pick "start outside harbor"; you will end up south of Iwo.

Please note that you have to repeat this for each flotilla base;

[Flotilla 1.Base 1]
ID= PearlHarbor

[Flotilla 2.Base 1]
ID= Manila

;[Flotilla 2.Base 2]
;ID= Corregidor

so on so on etc. Some more work is needed to find good patrol start points for non Pearl Harbor based boats; but this is a start.

Oh yes, you'll start with 100% fuel, unlike SH1, in which you had like 50% fuel....so just impose a self restriction, that you can only take your fuel down to what 60% or so.

im not sure if i want to start that far out but i do want to start far enough outside port (say 10nm) so i can use TC without interference from friendly traffic nearby.

is there a way to change the game so what it considers the start outside of port distance is 10 miles?

You can get corrdinates for any start point from the Mission Editor. Open a new mission then just point to the location you want to start and it will give corrds at the bottom of the window. You can open the Flotilla.upc make your edits to DepartureDescriptionOut1 (make sure you have the right base), but it may conflict with other mods so the best bet is to have a folder maybe named "start corrdinates/Data/Flotilla.upc" then you could enable it like any other MOD and remove it if it causes any problems.

If there are more than one listed for out then it chooses one randomly. BTW the last number is your heading.

thanks, i may do that

what i was getting at though was the game itself, does it have preset coordinates it uses as start points or does it radom generate a start point say 1.45 miles south of port "x"

They are coded in the Flotilla.upc. Sometimes you get more than one in the "In port" selection,the game just picks one to put you at a certain dock. I haven't read the whole thing but the ones I saw just have one position for 'outside port'. As far as I know, and I'm a beginner at the modding stuff, the game just lets you choose in or out and then uses one of those values, so - no it's not a distance it is a specific location.
