Well, it had to happen! I've started using mods.

Two of them so far, as well as my modded unit speeds and research rates I'm using a mod that tries to eliminate the 'Ping Pong' effect of combat and one that allows Rome to elect a real Dictator for a period of six months when war weariness reaches a certain level.

I've just started a new game so I'll let you guys know how they shape up but they're looking good so far.
