Default Time Compression

Well I am back at her again and loving it.

GWX 2.0 is outstanding.

My question is this, how do you use your time compression ?
I have limited playtime and would like to get the most out of it without making the game go by to fat or get to boring. So I am running most times at 128 until I reach my sector then I run at 1 time and play one hour a day for 24 days then head home at 128. I also leave the harbour a 1 times and when I am 50 Km's on my rturn trip I stay at 1 times to dock.

I tend only to stop 128 when something is spotted, I also run submerged during daylight hours and surface at night, i don't know if that is how it is done but it is fun and a challenge to maintain disipline.

So how do you do it ?? Fast or slow ??

I tend to burn TC getting to my assigned sector. If I am near where I can expect ships I won't exceed 512

If I am scooting home after a mission and I am out of torps or if I am crossing areas I don't expect shipping, I may up it to 1024. I don't go any higher.

I know that I may miss stuff but I get bored at lower TCs. There is only so much p*rn I can look at on my other computer

oops Did I really say that? I meant there is only so much time I can spend on CNN.com

A- 1024 when travelling
B- lower compression as dictated by my machine in higher traffic areas, usually 128 -512
C- up to 32 time compression when making surface attacks against unarmed merchants to close to gun range, but I make frequent breaks to check for course changes and airplanes/small patrol boats
D- ZERO time compression when attacking convoys submerged, I just haven't had good luck with it, altough I did recently try some time compression (8x) when submerged in heavy seas vs. a convoy, and wasn't detected, but it's not something I like doing

Why only stay 24 hours? They put that in there to give you something to aim for. You're expected to stay at sea until low on fuel or torpedoes. They were usually out for 6-8 weeks.

I used to run at 4096x when at sea, but these days I'm staying at 256x except for the harbors, which, like yourself, I stay at 1x, just because I like to look at the ships and stuff. My patrols usually last a realistic amount - a month or two.

When cruising in a IXD2 and getting a patrol way out in BFE which'll take 9km just to get to the patrol area 4096 is my friend. After passing heavy traffic areas there's just too many areas of open ocean where I might miss a stray single merchant or two.

Been longtime to IL-2 and returned back to Atlantic

When leaving harbor --> 1x

When escorter (Minesweeper) turns home, give my NO course and grid --> 1 - 256

Days I'm submerged and nights surface --> 1 - 256/512

When attack --> 1 - 8

Coming back home when eels has used or fuel is low...

I generally use up to 128 TC to transit from port to my patrol grid and when just cruising around looking for targets. I understand from previous posts on Subsim that use of faster TC can mean you miss lots of targets and don't come across aircraft that often.
